I write this topic because we should all share our own experiences through this process. Another reason is that, I just finished shooting a music video on the RED. I'm in the mist of understanding the whole idea of "The RED" work flow.

As of right now, I brought it in as R3D, plus 4 different files of resolutions. Which I'm assuming, this is what red does everytime!? I did not run it through Redcine. I went straight to FCP using the REDCODE codec. At this time, the editor and I are just logging the files and making notes. In the mean time, my question is:

Is there a way to do offline editing with the smaller resolution files and once we are happy with the final cut, can we go back to the 4k/2k files without having to place every file with the 4k/2k? I hope that made sense.

Other wise, if you don't have an answer, please fill free to share your experience using the RED with FCP.

Thanks,

-Mur

My system works with up to 12 resolutions/versions of each frame, you edit with smaller size frames so that the computer can show them at sync speed, and then output at full size or mid-size as needed from the source 4K+/- frames.

You can try it for free, I am working on some new commands to make working with RED ONE footage easer in some ways, but you can try whats up now, its "freeish".

It can also output SMPTE code and shot numbers onto a set of lower res frames, you could make an AVI with VirtualDub and load that into FCP or Avid and edit there, then conform the frame numbers in my Edit list manually to do the final color correction and 4K edit in my programs.

If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me direct at the address at the top of each page at my site.
