  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Tell me why I should get on board with FCPX

The best way to do further post work outside FCPX is to seperate all your elements, do not import merged video/audio files, keep them separated and sync up in FCPX after you import them. So if you want to work with R3D files natively, don't record sound to the camera.

I wish that was the case Matt. Besides Wes Howell at Adobe, their support is TERRIBLE. It's outsourced, India, Philippines. If you really want solutions and are in a rush, better have friends because Adobe will leave you in a lurch.

Bring tech support back into the US, I'm not here to teach these guys English.

ADOBE you are just pissing off the professionals. Glad to work with you guys but at least give us people with command of English and experience using CS6. I'd love to pay a premium even. A "call Larry Jordan" line would be fantastic.

Sounds great for support for Premiere users in India though :)

tend to agree....

If they could just fix 4 things for me... just 4... I'd use it on some serious gigs.
But support is bad... very sad.... then again. Apple does not even have support or even listens.
So.....
what do we do. ???

I'd still go CS 6 no transcoding ( despite foreign support or lack of it )......... but if you're not careful you can pay a render tax from hell. Avid still not resolution independent !

I'm already on CS6 and have been since it came out. Just wondered if FCPX was worth revisiting, whether it offered something over and above premiere now it's been patched up a bit.

Rob,

Do you understand the issue I am having with "drag and drop" operations? I should probably make a quick video to display the issue.

I'm running a 8 core Mac Pro (4,1), with 48 GB RAM, GTX 285 video card.

Will, what's your setup?

I cut 5K 2:1 on my MacBook Pro Retina w/ 512GB SSD, 2.7 Quad and 16GBs of RAM at 1/4 and 1/2 resolution and I have never had any issues with Premiere.

I played around with FCX when it first came out and actually updated and got back into it today to test out some R3Ds. I find it still as un-intuitive as I first did. Maybe I'm behind in the times, but I can't get over the UI. I would argue that coming from Final Cut 7, where I started, the jump to Premiere is pretty comfortable.

Hehehe, that's glasses up. No, I fear there are very few that have command of the program, let alone those that have used the program for paid work.

Sounds great for support for Premiere users in India though :)

I hear ya Mark, it's very sad. I'm up late again giving it another go, I'm still very thankful to have the opportunities I have. Mentally, if I accept there will be problems and the NLE is not perfect, then I tend find my way.

To expect a computer or a NLE or any software to be flawless is the first mistake. Know the limitations, expect difficulty. I can always go back to digging ditches :)

But support is bad... very sad....

I'd give the free trail a shot but I've heard a few people warn about corrupting hard drives. Is that really worth the chance? WTF is going on here?

FCPX has some redeeming features but for me the biggest things holding me back from using it on a daily basis are:

1. Lack of batch export (sequences, clips, keywords, etc.)
2. Lack of multiple tabbed sequences being open ( cough cough I mean cough cough "projects" as they're now called by Apple)
3. I'm not sold on the "Roles" function. I would almost rather go back to having tracks that I could assign whatever I want to, like FCP7 had.
4. I'd like to see more options in the "Share>Master File" section.

Also, and maybe I just haven't played with it enough, I wish there was a way to hide prior projects...cough cough I mean "Events" as Apple calls them now. Had to get a few jabs at Apple in there, but otherwise there are a few things about it I like.
