  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Telescopic 15mm Support Rods 80-150mm, Any?

Zacuto makes sections which screw together.

I just have a few different size 15mm & 19mm pairs in small to large size and use the size needed depending on how the camera is configured. I carry them in a breakdown shotgun case.

Thanks for the response, I already have 15mm rods that screw together, the rotating filter stage of my MB wont allow the rods pass through, so it basically means that I probably will need a pair of rods each for different lens length, and these can get too mess quickly especially in a rental scenerio. That's why I'm looking at telescopic rods. Thanks alot.

I spoke to him earlier.... it has something to do with how his mattebox doesn't allow the 15mm rods to go all the way through. So they basically have the perfect length to be used with an Epic/Scarlet configuration. Most of us would just carry a variety of rod sizes, 4", 6", 8" but he runs a rental operation so he wants "one-size-fits-all"

Honestly have never seen such a thing before

Wouldn't think they'd be very strong if they do exist at all

Odd, what type of matte box do you have, and is it set to standard height?
Bright Tangerine ViV, and the lenses that are giving issues are the "still" lenses (Nikons) some are barely 8cm from the rear mount to front ring.

Thanks

They do exist and I'm pretty sure they will be strong. If two pipes can be strongly held together at the threaded section, I see no reason why telescopic would not, as long at the point at which both pipes have contact is long enough to counter balance the exacted payload on the pipes itself. The shorter the total length of the joined pipes the lesser the probability of failure.
Curt Pair is using them (and its even in his video https://vimeo.com/43275849). Just looking for a shorter version.

Jason, from a design point-of-view I don't think it should be too hard. What do you think?
