Is the TC-201 the one I want? Seems cheap!

Will I get a decent 400mm f4? If so, awesome....

I have a tc200 ... it's almost the same as the 201. Works well on extending my old 200mm nikon glass, pushing it to 400 in a very clear way. The extender is way more clear then i could show uploading a shot in jpeg format. I only use it above f4.5, so not sure what it would be like at f2(i don't have a manual telephoto that is lower then f4.5) . Doesn't work well on any of the new electronic glass though, but the lens you referenced is manual(that 200mm f2 ed if ai you referenced is such a cool lens). Old nikon glass I think is awesome as long as it's been maintained well, is such a great deal.

Received mine today and found a few patches of fungus on the inner elements. :(

How much would it cost to clean? This copy is cosmetically poor, but other than those bits of fungus it's is in good shape optically, and they're not bad enough to do much to the image (though I'm guessing they reduce contrast a bit and make the bokeh a little splotchier) except I really don't want them to grow or spread.

Such a shame. This is a great lens. Reasonably sharp wide open and the bokeh is the best. Nice mechanics. I like the Nikon 135mm f2, but this is in another category. Beautiful rendering. Can't imagine what a gem the Tochigi 300mm f2 must be.

I would imagine that it would be cheaper to pick up another one rather than trying to get the fungus out. There's plenty of the teleconverters out there. I have a 200/2 with pv, pl and nikon mounts and love this lens. I used it for several shots on Boyhood against panavision primos and it held up beautifully. The 300/2 is an amazing lens, incredibly beautiful but very expensive compared to the 200.
