At the 2009 International Image Sensor Workshop, many papers about image sensors were presented and today they have been posted on the web site:
2009 International Image Sensor Workshop
They are highly technical and very fascinating. Others are really simple and use lots of pictures, like this one:
Sense and Sensitivity
It covers a lot of aspects of The Pixel Race, such as how resolution and noise vary with sensor size, and the utility of digital zoom (cropping) as pixels shrink.
NHK has been talking about 8K cameras and displays for a while now. It was fun to read the paper on one of their image sensors:
I also enjoyed the paper on a CMOS imager with Triple Exposure HDR. The novel part is they were able to keep a low read noise (2 e- in a 3.8 micron pixel is very good).
Maybe RED will submit a paper next year.

- 29.8x16.6mm (about the same as Mysterium-X S35)
- 7.5K @ 60 FPS, 12-bit
- 50 e- noise floor (seems pretty high for 3.8 micron pixels)
- 19ke- FWC. (Only 8.6 stops dynamic range?)
