  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Taylor Swift " Bad Blood " shot on Weapon by Christopher Probst

Nick, good questions... I find no matter what the subject, I just prefer to shoot wide open most of the time... So when you start lighting something, you know, with LIGHTS, shit gets brighter... Now you can start slathering on ND and stopping down the lens... But also, as long as the sensor is not clipping, you can lower the ISO some and clean up the image all the more... So why not?

I play a constant game of color temp, tint, iso and filtration to end up where I do for each and every scene... I too look at people's camera settings when the post pictures and often scratch my head trying to find a reasoning behind it... I think MANY don't give it much thought at all, and to me that's NOT a working method, that's flying blind.

The vast majority of the video is Low Light OLPF, for good reason. Only the actual day exterior was Skin Tone...

Awesome. Thanks. Makes total sense. Love the breakdown. When you say filtration, are you actually using any in this spot? Like BPM, HBM or Classic Soft? Or do you mean color filtration (ie CTB etc).

Great cinematography, but the video lacks momentum imo. There's just a lot of cameos and nothing behind them. Fight scenes are silly, too much fashion and too little substance.

I'm just upset that the level of writing and directing on this video distracts me from awesome imagery.

I hate to admit it, I have a bit of a soft spot for ol Swifty.

I think you did a great job on this, I imagine it was quite a mammoth task when looking at it on paper and then turning it into the finished product.

How did you get on with the weapon - did you feel like it gave you some clear advantages over Epic Dragon? baring in mind obviously that not all the Accessories are fully developed yet.

And thanks for the BTS shots - I actually after seeing the video on facebook had a feeling you had shot it and was hoping there would be some BTS on the site, if you have any more would be great to see, I assume there will be a BTS video out soon as with most of her videos?

And I thought I was the only freak doing exactly this...

Great stuff... ! Thanks for sharing BTS info.

Truly awesome stuff Chris. Love the film.
Congrats!

And a huge thank you for sharing your thoughts and the extra bts-look, very much appreciated.

I would love to see the BTS footage. This video is great. I would especially love to see the directing elements and how the team works together. Really fantastic stuff.

FUCK !!!!!.... amazing... NICE SHotooootttt Mister PROBST :)

WEAPON :)

Amazing work as always Chris - really looking forward to some BTS info from you :)

As an aside - black levels of the entire frame seem lifted (not just the image, but blacks surround the 2.39 aspect ratio) - is this intentional?

EDIT: Here's what I'm seeing with a comparison shot to rule out a gamma or black level problem system wide on my end.

blacklevels_comp.jpg

The RGB values for the black letterbox are 1,0,1 from a screen grab on my system, according to Photoshop...no matter what working color space I choose. My monitor is calibrated. I'm not sure why you're experiencing a lighter letterbox with that video and not others but I'm not having that problem.

If I'm being honest, the color in your grab looks a little off on my screen, too. That one is a little harder to pin down because of the sheer number of variables.

The VISUALS are ..... Fan-friggin-tastic!!!

Christopher your work here is stupendous. What were you using as main key lights?

That said I must say I find the the concept to be mindless, boring dreck of the worst kind, like it was conceived by an illiterate 17 year old, and that's a shame, but that's Joseph's fault, not yours.
