now with Tattoo out in the wild is there any way we could get an updated schedule for production so as to get some indication of when the stages will be filled and what sort of quantities will be moving out the factory doors?

has tattoo program started??

Its safe to assume that Tattoo has begun, albeit tepidly, if unofficially. We've been seeing images from Epic's shakedown for awhile. Hopefully this will shorten the Tattoo window somewhat.

"Tattoos" are prototype Epics that chosen industry leaders purchase for $28,000 and participate in the "Tattoo" beta testing program. If you look closely at all of the Epic prototypes that have already been on shoots there is one thing they all have in common: Jim and Jarred are there in the shadows closely guarding them. I don't think "Tattoo" really starts until someone pays in full for an Epic and takes it home with them.

I think this is an important distinction because Epics will have to stand up to much closer inspection once they start going home with people and this will mean Stage 2 is that much closer.

I think you are right that this unexpected 5 month period with semi-working prototypes may have reduced how long the "Tattoo" beta test will last.

If those tattoo cams were in the wild, why were they assembled with David Fincher?

OTOH why is Gibby off the list for a while?

And why is Mark almost not posting about anything but his excitement?

Gee... Tattoo is maybe out or it maybe isn't...

I agree...Tattoo hasn't started otherwise we would have been told.

I also still believe there will be at least a couple of months wait after this before it starts. Personally, i am just hoping it gets underway and in full swing before years end. The first of a few Alexa's arrived here this week and i already have a couple of bookings that are 'if i can't get the Arri' condition on them:(

We have a winner. ^^^^^

Does Gibby have a Tattoo camera yet?

While I agree with Justin, I also have to point out that, like so many other things with RED, what they THOUGHT at the beginning, may not be what they are DOING now. I.E. There's no way they are going to put a buggy, non-working camera in SS hands for a feature film. They are going to say "What do you need to shoot?" and SS will tell them, and then they will make damn sure those features are as rock solid as possible.

I would venture a guess (Cause it is fun) that they are farther along than they thought they'd be before Tattoo officially starts.

Remember the goal, not the process.. The goal is to have cameras that are rock solid before release to stage II. The other goal is to have enough stock to handle demand once they go to stage II. However they get there, once they are, things will move on.

It is not out of the realm of possibility that by the time the "officiall tattoo" starts, there may be only a few weeks before stage II follows. There's even as small snowball's change in hell that Tattoo could roll over into Stage II...

Now I'm REALLY pushing it.

#1 - The first rule of Tattoo is, you do not talk about Tattoo.
#2 - The second rule of Tattoo is, you DO NOT talk about Tattoo.

I think it's probably the opposite. I expect a tweet from Offhollywood the nanosecond they get their Tattoo. Also, Jim will want to let everyone know it's out.

Lets not confuse a Tattoo beta program with working alphas being out in the wild. Alpha programs you dont talk about.
