  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Tascam DR-701D has Timecode In

I didn't understand what the HDMI out was for. Is it to synch with another 701D?

So the 701D acts as a pass-through for video to a monitor? Cool!

Still, to record from the unit to your camera you have to have a line out to your camera module it appears.

The B & H video does a really good job of pointing out the features. I want one of these.

One issue though is that you won't be able to use the Red's HDMI port to pass through Timecode or the Record Start/Stop flag, as Red doesn't send any TC or Rec flags via HDMI port. What I've currently had to do was to use an Atomos S2H to covert the HD-SDI signal from Red into HDMI signal for input into the Tascam DR-701D. The timecode from the Red gets converted just fine, however the record trigger does not. (by the way the decklink SDI to HDMI converter didn't even pass through the timecode for me). Anyway it's workable, but would have been nice to have a simpler setup, because the recorder itself is actually quite decent.
