I happened to work on a project, which I need to consider sound sync, due to hire a sound guy who doesnt have the gears to sync for several up coming project...

I wonder how you think of these two options... for the post sync.

Hire a better sound person who has the equipment you need. If you're in NYC, timecode gear can be rented very inexpensively.

Or just use an old fashioned clap and get the job done.

Predictable answers here... don't do what you want or need to do. LOL

I have used Movie Slate with a synch cable and it worked pretty well (DSMC1). I didn't leave it connected but didn't get noticeable drift over the course of a morning. If I were to do it again today, I'd probably opt for go for the Tentacle option (I understand they are developing a new model) as I really don't want to have the camera tethered.

Good luck. Experiment and let us know how it goes!

The new tenticle with be the same but smaller and able to be setup via Bluetooth instead of cable.

They will be able to setup via bluetooth, but they will still have to be tethered to the cameras.
It's too easy to lose bluetooth connection and that would be very problematic for timecode in multi cam setups.

Just to be clear... the "tethering" I was referring to above was tethering the slate (master) to the camera (slave). IIRC, from my discussions with the folks at Tentacle, I think you can sometimes get away with synching one of your devices with the Tentacle and the disconnecting it. Reliability will depend on the drift you might get from the device itself if you don't have the Tentacle constantly tethered to the device.

Yes they will always be tethered to the camera. The camera doesn't have bluetooth anyway. I never have to set them up anyway. But if you need to change some settings, you have to either use a computer or connect via cable to the iPhone.

I personally think Tentacle is a great system. It can really function with pretty much any cam.
I was told the new version will be available in late September by the way.

Not just RED, every camera has timecode drift.

Ahh, my audio guy from my last gig was just as uniformed as I am then. He was so over the fact we were shooting on RED's because of timecode drift. Now I have a good comeback.
Thanks Bob!
