  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Tangent Wave, REDCINE-X & REDROCKET

Is nice system, i am waiting for my wave that is in San Diego that i ordered weeks ago....but have to wait to have someone bring to me in Mexico. Too much mouse by hand is just not efficient. Instead i must here how good is the wave while i'm muttering away with my mouse.

So you can only use your dreamcolor while using redcine-x and rocket-x? You have to unplug it or plug back into your video card if you want to use with FCP?

You can not leave it plugged into the video card AND rocket card at same time yes?
I might be missing something here, but if your monitor has multiple inputs just hook two connections up to it from your computer - one being the RedRocket output feed and the other running off your second DVI output on your video card perhaps (if you have one). Then just flip between them by selecting source input on your monitor?

I don't have a RedRocket, just thinking out loud.

Your welcome guys as I always have a great pleasure to serve our RED community well.

Then I forgot to mention that a part of the set up is AJA Hi5 3G HD-SDi to HDMI converter

connected between RED Rocket™™™™™ HD-SDI out (both outputs) to AJA Hi 3G HD-SDI in (both inputs)

and with HDMI out to HP DreamColor monitor to get a full 10 bit.

Sanjin; we have the panel and release 101 but how do you activate the panel? Don't see any menu options. We are on a Windows system so I don't know if that's the problem.
thanks

Can't help.

I'm on a Mac.

That's what I figured.
Anybody got the panel going in Windows?

Hey Sanjin,

Thanks for the picks. My Red Rocket was already on the way but after seeing your setup I purchased the WAVE the AJA DUAL SDI and the HP Dreamcolor along with new 8 core tower...will be in CC land very very soon. Also have the mobile rocket and HBA for quick switch between tower and macbook pro. RED is really great at this...so much support from different companies makes all the difference. Jim and RED a true revolution...i know i know i'm repeating what has been said a million times but i'm just saying it again:smiley:

Elijah,

I'm glad you like it.

Also I'll post soon some photos about a budget mobile on-set grading suite for dailies/rushes with

RED Rocket, REDCine-X, Magma Express BoxPro, Mac BookPro, Wave, HP Dreamcolor, LaCie Big Extreme FW 800 RAID 2TB,

AJA Hi5-3G HD-SDI to HDMI converter.

Stay tuned.

Waiting on you Sanjin...I'm sure it'll be worth the wait. Thanks.

I'm back now with one very improvised set up because I had to pull out my RR card out of MacPro.

Also busy with another things but had a little time to show our RED Users hungry to see how look a budget on-set grading

with REDCine-X b104, REDRocket dual HD-SDI out, MacBook Pro, RED Drive FW 800 out, AJA Hi5 3G dual HD-SDI to HDMI and

HP Dreamcolor 30bit LCD.

The picture on HP Dreamcolor is a fresh shot on R1-M with Leica-R 60mm Macro f/2.8 from this morning.

Here we go:

Paul, good point. Funny how the obvious is right in front of our eyes....
thanks.

Hi S

How are you monitoring/calibrating/loading LUTs when you CC on this system?
Only from the RR?
Or do you conform to something for a final grade in some CC app?

G

Sanjin,
So do you use the Magma express box on both your mac tower AND notebook? OR do you take the Redrocket card out of the express box and install it back in your Mac tower when you use the tower?

I'm trying to see if you get full potential out of using the RR from the express box AND what is the connection from the express box to your TOWER if you do use the express box connected to your tower. ----then are you getting full efficiency from the RR card if using inside the express box.

....many questions there. I like the express box, but trying to see what advantage it has if i plan ONLY to use from my mac tower. I'd like to free up a PCI slot, but you probably have to install another in its place....if so, what type of card/connection?

Thanks for all the work you are putting to show the community!

Gunleik,

HP Dreamcolor is calibrated with HP-Eye-One calibrator device that is the same device as you could have with your Mac or PC for your graphic/video work.

I do not use or work with this set up on another app except REDCine-X.

The idea is to get dailies/rushes in a way to work on set together with director/producer/cinematographer

and to define a basic color look of the shots that can be directly and immediately from this on-set place output as DPX,...etc.,...whatever you need files

that can be later use as a clear reference to grading suite and the main colorist.

Nothing more than that.

It's not grading footage for a final release.

About LUTs I do not know because this depends on more REDCine-X feature development later.

HP_01.jpg

Info from HP DreamColor Monitor status window.

HP_02.jpg

HP DreamColor powered with calibration device from Eye-One Technology.

Also I head that 3cP 4x with new release that using latest SDK from RED was promised to work with LUTs.

Just because 3cP was already woking together with R3D, Wave and REDRocket.

So probably third parties apps will do more things in that way...

hd sdi converter or red breakout box ?

hd sdi converter or red breakout box ?

Hi Sanjin,

Why do you use an Aja for converting the HDSDI output of the redrocket and not the breakout box ?
