When Jerry Hofmann was giving a talk at the REDuser party, I'm SURE I heard him say that he was using the Tangent Wave to control Apple Color. Yet everything I read indicates that they are incompatible, as the Tangent is USB while Color wants to to see ethernet control and Apple hasn't come out with an update to enable USB control. Am I missing something here? Does anybody know how to get in touch with Jerry Hofmann?

Hi Paul!

Ask and you shall receive!

I was using a Tangent Devices CP200... it works fine with Color. You're right the Wave doesn't...

Jerry

Thanks Jerry. I contacted Tangent and they said, "Although we are working closely with Apple to have a future release of Color to support the Wave we have had no indication from them when this might be made available to the public. It is Apples policy not to disclose anything in advance of a release."
It's good to hear that it's being worked on anyway.

Need help with Color nd Tangent CP200BK

Need help with Color nd Tangent CP200BK

It's Saturday and no one is home. I had a system deliverd to me last night and they didn't setup the Tangent to wok.

I need help getting a CP200BK working with Color. I followed all the directions and read many forums. I feel it may be in the IP address setup. Any help would be appreciated.

Gary

We needed to use a router, you can not go direct into the computer. Make sure the ip info is typed in correctly in color. I don't know why they can't make hooking these up easier.

Open the network settings:
In the Internet & Network section click the "Network" icon

If there are multiple network connections check the active Ethernet connection. If there are several Ethernet connections check which one becomes active when physically connecting the Tangent Device.

Click "Advanced.." and select the TCP/IP tab. Click on the Configure IPv4 drop down box and select "Manually". Set IP address manually.

In setup room of color, user prefs tab, make sure to check the box "Show control surface dialog" and then when it pops up pick the CP200.

Hope that helps.

Hi Jonnycom,

They hooked it up last night with a D-Link 10/100 8 port Fast Ethernet Switch but they did not check to see if it worked. Today, I have tried direct and through this D-Link, using different #s on the last digits of the IP address. Still no luck. I also tried both ethernet ports on the Mac Pro with no luck. Am I doing something wrong? I follow everything until the last step. The panels never go blank like the instructions sayand Color never works with it.

Thanx for any help,
Gary

Hello Michael,
I did everything as you said and it still does not communicate when I finish. I have Mac Pro Preferences-Network IP 169.254.138.186 and Subnet 255.255.0.0. Same is true in the Advanced tab and using Manual.

Should I be setting the Color IP addresses with different ending numbers? Like, 187 for the CP200-BK Panel and 188 for the CP200-K Panel?

Gary

yes you do have to use unique numbers. it has been awhile since we hooked ours up and I might be blocking that nightmare from my memory. tomorrow I will ask my engineer if he has any tips for you. triple check all the steps, it's always some little detail......

Hi Gary,

You have to use Ethernet Port 1 on your Mac Pro and set it to manual in the Network Preferences. Give TCP/IP numbers to your taste like IP Adress 192.168.1.15 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Router 192.168.1.0 (be shure the router adress is within the IP Adress range and use this router adress also in the color dialogue box) leave dns and domian empty.
if you connect your Panels to Power they will show there ID´s
Start color and open the dialog enter the ID´s into the right fields, enter the Router e.g. 192.168.1.0 and enter IP´s for the Panels within the IP Adress range like 192.168.1.22, 192.168.1.23 ...

close the dialog and change to primary room in color, you should see the panels change there layout.

Hope that helps

Again be sure to use the first Ethernet Port and if you have the second port connected disconnect it and even deactivate it.

Manuel

Hello Manuel,
Thanks for helping me here. I did everything up to the assign router in Mac TCP/IP. I used your numbers you gave me here and it says Invalid Router Address. And , where do I assign router number in the Color setup menu? I see Gateway on the bottom of the menu. Is that it? Sorry, I am not real IT smart. I have to believe I am close , though. My ID #is 691 and I used the IP addresses you mentioned. I am trying to get one panel going. I do also have a CP200-K panel here with the D- Link Switch, but not connected at the moment.

Gary

Got it. Thank you very much to everyone. I used a different router number 192.168.1.14

Sorry I didn't check back until now Gary. Glad you got it worked out. How do you like it after all of that?

Michael,

I am not sure yet. I have to spend more time trying it out.

How many panels are you using on the CP200, just the ball controllers, or the pan and scan controller as well. I ask since the ball controller panel is about $3,000 less than the combination of both. Or do you need both?
Thanks
