Hey guys so I'm kind of baffled right now. I am planning to upgrade my super wide angle to eigther a tokina 16-28 or a canon 16-35 but on thing that's really weird is I've attached my tamron 10-24 on my epic and it works at 5K FF! I mean all the way at 10mm and barely any vignetting... I don't understand as this lens is supposed to be built for cropped sensors. Any ideas? here is an example attached. is it possible that red configured the lens to be able to work in 5k? I mean that's a ridiculous question since its impossible but it shouldn't work right? I should see major lens barrel.

I'm using this lens for 2 years, but switched now to the tokina---but you are right it works :)

how do you like the tokina 16-28 over the canon 16-35?

interesting. I always thought 5k was full frame. Thats very weird though i mean, on set, when the director needs a 50 or 35 he's actually getting a little tighter than that... I guess no one has figured it out but anyways. Thanks for the help

5k MX is bigger than 35mm Super 35mm film , so it's wider not tighter. When you use a 50mm lens your using a 50mm lens end of story. When you saying it's tighter your referring to 8 perf 35mm vistervision of 24 x36 mm. This is not a regular motion picture format. Shooting a Hassleblad 6x6 would require a different set of lenses as well.....

Hey Stephan. I thought so as well but how do you explain the APS-C lens to work on my epic at 10mm?

Alex, it is common for lenses designed for APS-C to cover more than the cropped size. They just won't cover FF (real FF, not what RED calls FF). Many reasons for this, the main ones being expediency, allowance for margin for error in manufacturing and most importantly good corner to corner sharpness and illumination.
