Hi,
I plan to carry the RED ONE BODY only to the RED headquarters in USA when I am flying to NAB from India.
Is there any specific requirement for US customs and what documents should I carry when travelling . I would require tips and suggestions from you guys on how to carry the camere so that there are no hassles during air travel.
Thanks
Harcharan

Hi,

I am from Europe and just came back from a trip to Montana. Here are some things I recognized as I had to pass many security checks:

It was always necessary to take the camera out of the case to rescan it again. The problem is that you will be asked to step back and some security officer will open the case ( u can´t physically help him - just by words ) so keep the packaging simple and have a handle mounted so they understand how to hold the camera.

I also would bring the battery charger + limo connection cable so you can turn on the camera if asked. I brought two red bricks in the hand luggage and battery plate.

Maybe have a copy of your receipt for the camera / import tax to your home country ... so there will be no problem bringing your red home.

all the best for your flight!

I think a carnet would be helpful to convince customs that you take it home with you again....

Hi,
I will be carrying all my import documents and also the RMA papers for repairs...Do I still need a cartel ?If yes then where can I get the services.

on my first air travel to Japan this year I was also unsure where to put my batteries so I first put them well protected in the check in luggage but on the connection flight out of Tokyo I was advised to take both batteries into my hand luggage. Did have the two batteries in the hand luggage to USA and back - also no questions asked taking several flights.

It's a against the law to check them in, they are hazardous and in the same class as dynamite. Depending on the size of the batteries your limited to how many can be carried. There are several threads on the matter.

If you didn't already know: lithium batteries over 100Wh are classified dangerous goods

Shipping Disclaimer:

Please note that as of January 1, 2009, lithium ion batteries over 100Wh are classified as Class 9 Dangerous Goods. RED BRICK batteries are 140Wh and therefore fall into this category. RED must comply with the applicable US domestic and international rules and regulations pertaining to documentation, shipping, and handling procedures. Since there is a Dangerous Goods surcharge for lithium ion batteries added onto the normal cost of shipping, RED will be adding a RED BRICK shipping and handling surcharge on orders including RED BRICKS.

In addition, some countries will not accept any Dangerous Goods shipments with FedEx as the carrier (see Dangerous Goods Countries for country list). For these countries, RED will have to engage the services of a different class of shipper (eg, a freight forwarder). If RED cannot use FedEx, please note that there will be increased shipping and handling charges as well as additional processing time to arrange for alternate shipping options.

Unless you have been certified to ship dangerous goods, you must work with a Dangerous Goods, Class 9-certified shipper to assist you with a shipment that includes RED BRICKS (or other regulated lithium ion batteries). Please note that applicable laws prohibit the shipping of batteries that are physically damaged. We urge you to look into the formal rules and regulations of shipping Class 9 Dangerous Goods prior to preparing your shipment. For more information on these regulations, please visit www.iata.org and www.dot.gov

I would take the battery and plate with the camera body - usually u check in your luggage first and than go through security with your hand luggage so getting your power can get a problem if it´s already checked in and on the way to the plane.
