Good afternoon. I'm curious about the basics of syncing up double system sound files to picture IF we want to utilize the RAW files for our edit?

Normally, I would churn out some ProRez files syncing up the sound during the conversion. But now that I'm not writing out new files, is there a system association made?

Does that mean that our team is each going to have to have a copy of FCPX and actually have to trade a system hard drive to keep not only audio but the project in sync (someone to sync files, someone else edits)

Just trying to think through the best way to do this before we go crazy with a longer project.

Doesn't Plural Eyes require a scratch "on camera" track to have been recorded at the same time for sync to be achieved? (I'm going to need to find a little mini mic to plug in those front ports on the epic - or make a mic!)

And I guess I'm simply creating an association/sync while the files are in the editor. Meaning, there's no way to re-write a Red Raw file with new audio attached, huh? Maybe that would be nice. I don't want to have to make Quicktimes until the very end and I'm not wanting to buy a Rocket card until I see a price drop or a 2.0 card.

All of this for a personal project. :) I never really follow my professional work all the way through audio post. Since the sound board in the mixing room I've used costs as much as the Epic and that's 1/10th of the gear, I'm not gonna have that audio gear at my studio anytime soon! Yes, audio could be made a bit more user friendly!

Do we have Phantom Power on the Epic yet, by the way? If so, is there an impact on battery time?

Use pluraleyes for RAW syncing, and export a FCP XML of the synced sequence.

I tried using Plural Eyes the other day (trial version) and it wouldn't read the r3d files. I've been manually syncing the audio for my latest project and it's a pain in the ass.

I think PluralEyes only reads QuickTime wrapped codecs if I'm not mistaken. Doesn't PPro have a sync based on timecode feature for double system workflows? Just reference the R3D and sync to the BWF.

Michael

[edit] Sorry - just remembered it was in reference to FCPX. Disregard the PPro reference.

Maybe a better question to ask, outside of FCP or other app is to suppose this.....

The RAW camera file recorded from the Epic can contain an audio track. While shooting, we will NOT record a signal onto those tracks as no audio source will be running to the camera.

We have now recorded audio with external gear (why did we do that again??) and have a separate audio file.

How do we replace that "blank" audio area of the RED RAW file with our audio recorded on a separate recorder without having to burn out a Quicktime (or other) file first?

Maybe I'm requesting a new feature for Red Cine?? :D

Where is audio coming from, from the RED camera or a separate recording and do they both have matching timecode?
