  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What is the best way to sync audio to the proxies for editing in FCP and then creating an EDL to link to the original R3D's for mastering of film to blu-ray without having to resync audio to R3D's? Im not an editor so please excuse my lack of workflows. The reason I ask is the editor wants to straight away transcode to prores so im stuck with 1080p all the way through the process of reframing and color but I would rather work with those in higher resolution before the transcode. He doesn't have a system fast enough for even 2k so proxies will have to do.

Shot in 4kHD 23.98
Looking to crop 2:35
Audio recorded externally, no timecode (Student film shoot)
Output 1080p for blu-ray master.

I am the DP but wanted to get the best workflow over to my editor. Thanks in advance for your help!

what is the workflow process? I'd like to put a flow chart together for editors I work with in the future on projects with these specifics.

It's basically the standard Clipfinder workflow:

1. Render Proxies
2. Import to FCP, do all your pre-edit work. (In this case, sync audio)
3. Edit.
4. Export XML
5. Load XML into Clipfinder, run conform to connect to the camera proxies.
6. Load *NEW* (AKA Clipfinder-Conformed) XML into FCP.
7. Send the conformed sequence to Color for grading/rendering.
