Is anyone successfully syncing sound to Red?

(I mean recording to an outboard device and actually syncing the external DAT (or whatever) to Reds TC input.)

here are some problems I am discovering:

1. Red does not display frames (see attached image)
2. The TC output is not enabled on Red
3. When I jam sync- the TC display in the Red does not change until after I record. (it records the correct tc, just doesnt display it until after the first recording)

How are you guys syncing?

I've been able to jam Red semi successfully to a timecode slate. Sync was one frame off- or completely off at times. The timecode doesn't free run in the display on the EVF or LCD unfortunately so it's a little hard to know if you're actually jammed or not. The chain icon indicates you *have* jammed at least once but as to whether you're still in sync the only way to know for sure is check after a take that the QuickTime proxy matches the timecode slate or the DAT recorder. I'd say a TC slate is essential so you have a visual tc reference in your footage.

so what exactly did you do? Does your device sync at 23.98 or 24?

here is the problem I am running into:

Or DAT recorder only records 24, 29.97 and 30.

Normally I would shoot red at 23.97....but that forces my to record audio at 24.

We shot at 23.98, and jammed TC slate and solid state audio gear at 23.98. The slate was the clock source. It worked well enough but not well enough to auto sync in post. Each take had to be checked against the slate and manually synced up. But it was easy and sync was perfect after lining up.
