Sydney Pollack Dead at 73

I am stunned. I got to meet Mr. Pollack at a screening of Crossing the Line at Fox studios almost a year ago. He asked really good questions about the camera and I was amazed at how young he looked in person. I went home and did the usual IMDB look-up, and would never have guessed his age, in person he seemed 10 years younger. I heard the the news today and am just stunned. He was one of those people who left a really amazing first impression on me, just such a cool guy.

Sidney Pollack was a great filmmaker and great actor. I would love watching him on the screen. He was also a terrific human being. When I hear news about the death of someone like Sidney Pollack I am reminded that life is short and we still have a lot to do. It is a sad day for all of us.

That's truly shocking. To watch him in interviews it seemed like he had many many years of filmmaking left in him. Very sad.

Awwww, really sad... a master filmmaker.

If it wasn't that cancer, I too think that he had many more years.

Rest in peace.

:waaa:

A great filmmaker that changed the faith of a country

A great filmmaker that changed the faith of a country

A great filmmaker that changed the faith of a country, before "Out of Africa" the tourist industry was almost non existent in Kenya. He help a country to start to move itself out of poverty with this great work.

I'm shocked. First, Anthony Minghella, now Sydney Pollack. With some connections with a their third partner -- a young and promising british producer, I am particularly sad on behalf of this particular friend's husband and family. My condolences.

This is terrible and sad news. He exuded warmth and intelligence. A real Mensch is gone. So few left, if any.

I was so sad to hear this. :( When are we going to get serious about cancer? In the 1960s we dedicated 10% of the national budget to put humans on the moon. Why not do the same with cancer?

This guy was head and shoulders above the crowd. I think I will always remember him from his turn in Eyes Wide Shut.
