I was on a shoot today and I noticed two things about Switronix XP-L95 RED batteries. First they shut down when the camera was saying they still had around 30 minutes of life left, but more concerning was I had a revolt in the Side handle and when the V-Mount died it didn't kick over the REDVolt. I have never worked in that combo before but I know unplugging AC and having a REDVolt in the Side Handle it switches automatically. Is there a setting or something I didn't do that is causing the V-Mount not to kick over to REDVolts when it dies?

Thanks

Tommy

What type of battery plate are you using?
Although it worked in the past, can you double check to see if it still automatically switches over when you unplug the AC power supply from the wall?

My DSMC Side Handle had this problem. Was repaired under warranty by Red.

Are you using the latest firmware? I had a problem with my non v-mount batteries dying and not switching over, a few firmwares back. Also, there are possibilities that the switching doesn't work with all batteries (even with the same brand).

I have had this problem with VideoProShop.biz VMount batteries. Red took a look at my logs and decided they were the culprit. Only happened when the battery was really low and didn't matter if there was a redvolt in the side handle or not.

It might be the batteries; The individual cells are combined in series to to get proper voltage, and in parallel to achieve current ratings.
If there is a defective/degraded cell or two, it would be possible to show proper voltage, but not maintain sufficient current to properly power the camera under load (Recording).

I have the same batteries and got a bad batch or something, all three started to give me terrible performance (last under 40 minutes) in under a year of use. One of them exhibited that behavior, of jumping from 50% to 0%. I got them replaced under warranty by Switronix, had them for 2 months, hopefully these will hold up better.
Running a Red Epic MX by the way.

Regards.
