  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Switchcraft TA5 to XLR 5 pin

The only one i have found is the Belden 1172A Starquad which diam is 4,2mm,but dfficult to find for 1 meter in the US;impossible in Europe. Are there others ref to look for?

We generally use Canare L-4E5C for the TA series from Switchcraft. Fits perfect, and should be easy to find (I currently have a little north of 11,000 feet in stock).

Thank's,i just order 1 meter from Canford but diameter is 4,8mm,will it fit in my 4,32mm diameter TA5?
I will use this cable at line level for monitoring purpose from the RED TA5 OUT to a mixer XLRs balanced IN.I made an adaptor cable XLR 5 to 2 XLR3 for this;no problem? What about the ground? On RED,the ground pin is not used (pin 1 and 4 for one pair, pin 3 and 5 for the other but nothing on pin 2)!
What to do?

You'll need to remove the rubber strain-relief piece from the black plastic shell of the TA5 in order to fit the cable through (it will still be a pretty tight fit). Make sure to crimp the TA5 to the cable. Once crimped and properly soldered to the respective pins - the cable won't be going anywhere. If you want, you can widen the diameter of the opening on the black shell a little bit, put some shrink tube on the cable, and then solder and crimp. It won't make any appreciable difference in the strain relief, but it might look cosmetically better. Personally, we just remove the rubber piece and install without any additional tubing.

You will need to connect (solder) to the strain relief of the TA5 to pickup the body ground of the plug. This needs to be electrically connected to pin 1 of both XLR connectors via the shield of the cable you use between the two ends.
