Swit downconverter

Hey Rob! Alles goed?

On the Swit US site here it is listed as 720 USD. Where did you get the 1/3 price from?

Hallo Rob,

welkom in de jungle van Red, alles is al besproken nu alleen nog weten waar ;)
benieuwd hoe het met je is, hoor graag van je op mijn gewone email

groet
Mark

The Bangkok dealer for Swit quotes a price of 19.000 baht, so about 500 us$

The Bangkok dealer for AJA quotes a price for 57.000 baht, that is a big difference.

I have been using Redbyte's downconverter
For about a month. Easy to use, seperate power/ signal led
So it's easy to track down problems. Only issue we have
had is an intermittant black frame but we shortened a cable
Run and resolved that problem. All in all a great product and
since most local VTR guys don't have HD
monitors we have been throwing one in our package price
to avoid conflicts. It's amazing how just a little thing like
a 50.00 rental will start a tirade against the RED. Now all we need
Is timecode out of the HDSDi to silence the script department critics

We have the Redbyte Decimator and their previous incarnation the HD2SD which cost about three times as much. I'm not convinced the Decimator gives as good an image as the HD2SD but it is very small and very light. The image quality is easily good enough for what most people require and the pricetag is excellent. If you are looking for a downconvertor that ticks all the boxes except for having the very best quality image then look no further, if you are a perfectionist and have money to burn and don't mind hiking a heavier unit then by all means go ahead. It's a no brainer for me though and works great on the steadicam.

Yes, we have the Decimater as well, (2 of them) excellent picture for our use: recording video assist on mini-dv or Harddisk systems.

I would not bother with the SWIT, it does not downconvert from HD-sdi, inly from SD-sdi, which is useless for the RED.
And don't bother with the AJA as well, too expensive and less features then the Redbyte.

Thank you to you and Paul for the feedback.

I agree with what you're saying. I'd still try to recoup the money with a small fee. In my market they have to rent a downconverter anyway, so why not save them some money by renting them a cheaper (but still quite usable) downconverter.
