Does anyone know if the red AC power adaptor has surge protection? I feel it is a little risky to run of AC be it house power or genny. A surge would really mess up the camera I would assume.

Thoughts and opinions appreciated.

I was wondering the same thing just today. I just received a RED, but the batteries did not come with it, and I have a shoot this week that is in an apartment, and COULD easily work off house power, but was concerned about surges.....no answers from me, just an 'i'll 2nd that question.' i am going to go to finnerknowsbest.com to check the answer then post back here.......oh wait....hehe

Finner ain't know that.

My buddy Anders who posts here has been putting UPS inline, on the dolly when shooting AC in the studio.

Seems like a simple solution to me and thats how ive been doing it since.

Grab on with an LCD screen so you can see how the charge is doing.

Yep, I use a UPS/Surge protector whenever I go to shore power. HUGE time saver when moving locations, because your not rebooting all the time.

Pretty sure the Elpac doesn't have surge protection (our camera died from a power surge while plugged into mains with the Elpac - I seem to remember Red saying that the camera could safely power down if there's a surge when running power via the charger instead). Since that fateful day we bought a surge protector but of course that doesn't protect you from unbelievably clumsy idiots who trip over your power cable and wrench it from the socket (I guess a UPS is next on the shopping list for us...and a gun :gun:...or maybe a taser?)
