I have a set of Zeiss Arri Super Speeds in 35mm format for sale. Total 5 lenses. 18, 25, 35, 50 & 85 - Mk III, T1.3. Very hard to find. Nice & clean set. Asking US$52,000 or best offer. Contact Guru.Enterprises@gmail.com

think of UP prices...:)

back to topic...good luck to the seller finding someone
what i want to say, for 50k you get
1. much more lenses or
2. much "better" lenses

i know 2 people who bought MP`s.
1 paid almost the list price.
the second not.

maybe another thread to discuss the MP thing.

The MIII supers are the same optically as MK I and II but the barrels are much better for ACs. This is the market price for Mk IIIs, I'm not happy about it, before the Red this set would have sold for half this much or less.

The Mk. I and Mk. II 50mm and 85mm Planars are different optical designs. The 18, 25 and 35mm are the same, but Mk. I have the "triangular" nine-bladed iris.

I was at the Zeiss factory when the last production run of Mk. III Super Speeds were being assembled. I think RoHS might have had something to do with the discontinuation of that design, since some of the lenses used glass with lead in the formula.

<- begin rant ->

The EU bureaucrats that came up with RoHS should pat themselves on the back. They made the world a safer place by making sure that no one will ever take a brand new Super Speed lens, disassemble it, crush the glass, eat the glass and then die of lead poisoning (talk about the Darwin Awards).

Never mind the fact that they made a huge exception for the #1 use of lead in consumer products: Car batteries.

<- end rant ->

Anyhow, when a final limit is put on the production of an item that is still in demand, the price invariably goes up. Fine art still photographers would sometimes destroy an original film negative to raise the value of the prints made from it.

I agree with Evan, if I had the Mk. II Super Speed set I sold in 2006 back, I could probably get nearly twice as much. My customer had exquisite timing. He bought just before RED was announced. I have no regrets, I needed the money then, and it was a fair price then. He's made a few movies with them too.

Jorge at Cinema technic is incorrect obout zeiss superspeeds.
the mki mkii and mki are all optically the same there was an older set whitch was called zeiss b 1.4-speed only not mark i. the b-speed set 18mm 25mm and 35mm are all optically the same the 50 and 85 are different and the b1.4 set have triangle iris blades. there were 4 sets b1.4, mki mkii and mkiii.
