Super Slo-Mo Surfing in HD

I can totally relate to that guy in the water saying he KNEW it was the best shot of his life. For a shooter, I suppose there is no higher feeling possible. Sometimes, you just know.

Great footage.

My favorite part is the excitement on the face of the guy who shot it.

I have to learn surfing.lol Great footage.

Great, great shots. But its hard to believe that this is the first time someone has taken a highspeed HD camera into the waves.

Have you seen "Step Into Liquid", or "Thicker Than Water"? Great surf films, Step Into Liquid was all shot on HD, 16mm and 35mm. Lots of highspeed stuff, almost all of it. Maybe they are just implying something a little more specific in this clip.

Anyways, now I feel like I'm dragging it down, I'm not, great stuff.

Wow, nice shot.

On a side note, I want to take a baseball bat at the YouTube servers.

Was that a film camera? Guess not cause he said he watched it back. The clouds added a lot. What a wave. And how cool are those vortexes! I didn't know that happened. Very interesting.

Beautiful wave, great water vortexes... never saw that.
Sound like he used a digital camera. Red? not so sure...
Could it be that Step Into Liquid and all those great surfing movies did not have hi-speed shots of a big tube?

Great shot, no doubt. As for the first time a shot of that kind has been captured, they must mean the first time it's been shot digitally. I've seen lots of over-cranked film shots that are equally good and I'm not talking Old Spice commercials here.

Le Grand Bleu and Big Wednesday spring to mind.

There has been high speed slowmo in surf films for the last 25 years at least. Usually Photosonics or Milliken high speed film cameras.

Not sure about the vortex comment on the commentary either. I do a bit of surf photography and have several shots of them. Here is one - http://www.mbphoto.com.au/09/surf_files/_DSC1193.jpg

Still a great shot by Bali Strickland however hardly ground breaking besides the fact is was shot digitally rather than film.

There are several Red surf shooters around both in Hawaii and Australia.

Scarlet won't shoot 500fps.

I thought the article on BBC said 480fps or something like that.
