  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Summertime - very low budget NYC indie feature film

oh yeah, naturally the director's trailer is never color corrected, especially not if we're in London and he's in NYC :D

we hope to be able to do the color work for the final product...

mind if i ask what very low budget means exactly? perhaps just a range. you got some great locations and results. great job, cant wait to see the full trailer

XiauSu Han thanks. Best of luck and make sure to keep updating, I would love to see this

Absolutely gorgeous work.

Really stunning.

lower 5 digit figures, everybody has been paid as well. little but paid.

That's real impressive. I shot enough of these low budget pics to know the level of organization, commitment, and skill throughout all areas of production to pull it off at that figure. Your shots look very nice too.

I'm sure I'll be hearing about this film when it's released.
Congratulations to all involved.

Thanks for sharing these. Great job of using the tools you had. I also like the use of the rug to smooth out the ground for the dolly - very creative!

So you have any BTS pix of the setups for the wide shots? I'm curious to see how you lit the wides- specifically scenes like the hotel dinning / lounge area.

Hey Ryan, do you mean this: http://www.stilfabrik.at/summertime/summertime17.jpg ?

we had two or three of our 500w photobulb-home-pot-lamps through a sheet of 216 (full diffusion) hidden to the far right back side, and on the left we exchanged the bulb from the practical and added a silver board. Also most of the practicals in shot are added and this is how we created the ambient.

is that the frame you were talking about?

the editing is finished. we're either going to do the CC ourselves or maybe we can find someone in NYC, I think that we'll have the completed film somewhere in the 1st quarter of 2010.

Yep- that was the frame- thanks for the info. :) Your lighting really complements the location very well- that is one of my favorite frames from the ones you posted. Great work. :)

we're in the process of grading the film now and here are a couple of stills, the compositions aren't that great of those, it's just a couple of our looks we're aiming for!

any questions as usual welcome and criticism of course as well!!!

thanks for the feedback so far! I'll make sure I can somehow distribute the movie here once it gets released!

I hope I am not completely off base:

Looking at these on an "80% monitor" I find saturation far more pleasing on the original, perhaps somewhere in between, but definitely closer to the original.

Of course since I know squat about your story I couldn't know what fits. Their expressions tell me their goal isn't attained, they aren't happy/fulfilled in some way, so the saturation feels out of place.

The grading on 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 of the recent ones looks great!
