  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Suggestions please for a quality studio tripod for photography

Oconnor 2575, Oconnor 2030, Oconnor 1030 and most of the Sachtlers. Depends on how your camera is built. Weight of the camera is the largest factor.

For Photography I prefer tripods with hand cranks for finer height adjustments. Are you talking about photography on DSLR? If so, also get geared 3-way head. Finally, get a right bracket like from Really Right Stuff for quick transitions from landscape to portrait.

just for studio photography works the best are those giant pillar type tripods. can lock it down and noone will move it that easy but they are expensive

I have a Gitzo G1227 MK2 with a Manfrotto 3047 that I bought new 10 years ago. The center column doesn't lock anymore but it still works and has been used almost everyday for the past decade. It will hold my 1Dx with 70-200mm 2.8is with no slippage up to my Epic Dragon with 50mm F1.2, SSD, DSMC Side handle and EVF. Highly recommend a Gitzo with a geared center column and Manfrotto head, I didn't get one and regret it. If budget permits I would also recommend a RED R 90 I have mine sitting on the Manfrotto head on a QR plate and use it all the time when shooting product or portraiture in the studio.
