Hi guys, what do you think about this set up ?
Mac pro with RR, ati radeon 4870, kona Lhe, aja Hi5, panasonic pro plasma 58 with hd sdi, panasonic PT-AE4000U projector.

From radeon to 2 computer monitors.
From RR Hdsdi to plasma for redcine x.
From Kona LHE hdsdi to plasma for Color.
From Kona LHE hdsdi to aja Hi5.
From aja Hi5 hdmi to projector.

Any thoughts ? Suggestions ?
And by the way, what am I getting from the connections ?
8 bits, 10 bits ?

Hi Philipe,

I'd check in with AJA to see if that's going to work. One of the nice things about AJA is that you actually get a human on the phone, and when they don't know they say "I don't know let me get back to you." It's simple stuff, but so many companies don't get it right.

I know the Kona 3 won't work in the same box as the Rocket.

I got this from Abe earlier this week:

"I have spoken with product management here and they tell me that using a RED Rocket™™ and a Kona 3 in the same computer will not work. For more details, the folks at Red Support will be able to help! Our guys here are saying that the optimal configuration is two Mac Pro towers, one with the Rocket, the other with the Kona 3."

I hope that helps.

Cheers,

Steve

Looks like a nice combo of price/performance with lots of capabilities. A couple of notes: I have been happier with the AJA HDP2 than the AJA Hi5. Suggest you compare their specs. The DVI connector is more robust and less likely to get accidentally pulled. The HDP2 has an internal hardware scaler that gives you more control over things like 1 to 1 pixel mapping on displays that are determined to fill the screen and introduce distortion or artifacting you don't want. Works with, and carries 10bpc to more devices than the Hi5.

The Panny PT AE4000U is amazing bang for the buck, just resist the urge to blow the image up too big. IMHO once properly calibrated it is more like an 900 lumen projector and since the high gain screens I know of are too non-linear in response for critical image evaluation, that will limit you to under 120" diagonal @16:9 AR. This limitation may not be an issue for your clientele but it will not fully mimic a theatrical viewing environment. I have not researched what portion of the P3 color gamut it can display, but if you are prepping DCI compliant DCPs you should find out.
