Hey Gang,

I want to be vague here, cause I'm not quite ready to let the whole cat out of the bag.. But I'll say we are working on the RED102: EPIC and SCARLET course. It's going to be... How shall I say it... "Extensive". We will most likely launch in Feburary, and we're cranking out video tutorials at a good clip. And... While I have a list of things to do, I'd like to ask if there are any specific tutorials you'd like to see.

If they fall in line with where we are, we'll see if we can crank it out for you by our opening.

Here''s a small sample of what's coming:

How to tranfer RMD files from RedCine X Pro to EPIC / SCARLET
How to change your lens mount
The EPIC & SCARLET Buyer's Guide.. Pricing on some configs and a decent comparison of the two systems for those that do not know
Installing the side handle
Accessory Highlite and training: Wooden Camera and Dana Dolly

Some of this stuff may seem very simple.. But remember we're speaking to everyone, not just the experts.. And trust me when I tell you, there is a lot more coming. We will launch when we hit about 12-18 videos, and then add more at about 2-3 per week.. So it's going to be wild.

So... What would you like us to focus on?

I think a section on how to make good use of HDRx and how to achieve good results by blending both a and x framex would help some people... :)

Jay,
RedcineX workflow. Tutorials concerning color/gamma correction, monitoring solutions, Red Rocket integration, export examples for various deliverables, and
a specific rundown on all those sliders and buttons and what they achieve. Considering most of the image manipulation standard within a broadcast camera
will instead now occur within RedcineX, this vital info would help tremendously to avoid pitfalls and potential troubleshooting.

Thanks for asking, looking forward to the tutorials!

++!!!
absolute must IMHO Jay. For every op who can't figure how to mount a side handle (??) I guarantee there are at LEAST 50 of us that would LOVE to get a jump-start on RCX.

other topics:
-proper HD monitors/ setup for Color Correction
-IR pollution and/with ND filtering

Look forward to seeing the course listings...

Jay,

I think one of the most overlooked aspects is Audio. Using the mic points on the from of EPIC, connection to XLR, timecode sync, hardwire links, radio links, etc.

The whole audio aspect of what links, how to link, timecode audio to video then sync in REDcineX-PRO...

You get the point.

:))

Great thread. Very exciting someone is really stepping up Jay.

+ 1 on the HDRx and the audio & timecode best practices and different workflows.

If your doing accessories, I think the hardest aspect I have found is solid inexpensive options/systems for base plates, rods, QR's and rigging for Scarlet/Epic and that such a guide would find many a grateful user.

Wow.. Ok... Tell the truth we really saw ourselves as more the "hardware" side of the education spectrum. I thought a lot of people were already covering REDCine X. But our site is a PAID membership, which means we work for you. If you guys want us to really dive into REDCineX Pro, then we will do so... And we'll cover the cameras as well.

We'll most likely attack HDRx first. Since that can be an art form.

One thing I need to point out.. We have to start everything at the basics... I cannot launch into really advanced stuff right from the beginning.. We did this on the RED101 and poeple seemed to like it.

But don't worry, this will be an on-going thing.. So eventually we'll cover it all.

A few more ideas:

Blackshading
Dealing with HDRx complications (difference in shutter speeds)
Noise and sharpening
Cleaning your sensor / OLPF
Preserving / exporting REDCine settings to your NLE
Rendering and transcoding workflows / options

Jay,
Would there be a way to have advanced classes right from the start?
A seperate part of the website...maybe one subscription
for basic course membership and a another for advanced...and maybe
a "day rate" for those that need the "quick tech tip"...just a suggestion
of what I would find helpful. No need to have some of the veterans..
wait while basic training happens for others...the 4K war is raging LOL

Elijah,

Good suggestion.. Yeah we're on this actually. We're going to try to mix up the order we shoot things in.. I.E. We're going to shoot the HDRx module next week, which will be advanced. So there will be a good mix.

There will not be a day rate since on average we plan to keep it below $36.00 per month! There will be some special options available for those that need it, but over-all we want to keep the membership low enough that you don't have to worry about it.. It will be there if you need it.. Also we are working on a way that you can download the videos if you need too (This will be a little more, but still less than $36 per month)

Also we plan to include ALL the RED101 videos as well. Our goal is for this to become a HUGE online school forall things RED and some other stuff as well. We have a great future mapped out, we're on our way, and we plan to give all the details and be ready for signups beginning Feburary.

Thanks to the feedback on here.. We have done two things:

1: We are now mixing up our modules with BOTH basic and advanced at the same time.
2: We are going to put a LOT more focus on REDCine X Professional

I hope everyone enjoys this.. We're busting our asses over here.

Long Deep Look at REDCine

Long Deep Look at REDCine

ok after some serious research.. We're going to take on REDCineX Pro. We'll be covering it from top to bottom, Basic and Advanced. There will be a mixture of "classes" which show you what things are, and then "Walkthroughs" which will show you how to use it, and these will be "real world" based. In other words, how you do it, depending on the type of Job.

First Up will be HRDx and how to use it.. This will be a fairly advanced course because there are MANY levels to this, so it's not a simple matter of "shoot here" and "press this button". Not if you want art.

This feedback has been insturmental in getting some good stuff out the door (You all have also increased me workload 10x.. Thanks SO much for that!!)

We hope to have a lot of this up when we open the course in three weeks.
