Hi all,

Just thought I'd check to see if anyone had found a great solution to transporting a built up RED DSMC 1 or 2 rig.

The cases with custom foam inserts like Jason Cases look fantastic, but generally guarantee the camera has to be broken down to fit back inside. We're looking for solution that enables the camera
(in slightly varying configurations) to be placed in its secure accommodation for travel between locations or at the end of a shooting day, to save set up time for the next morning.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for the input

CineBag, Porta Brace, Tenba CineLuz 21 or 24. Soft bag, but very rigid.

I had the same wish for a between-locations carry bag (not for shipping or checked baggage). After trying a few, I ended up with the Sachtler Dr. Bag #4, which works well.

It holds a modestly built-up camera with basic LWS rods, handle, lens, matte-box, and monitor folded carefully over top, and has a nice tie-down to hold the camera in place. With the right divider panel, I can also fit a couple of slim batteries down the side of the camera body. My only complaint is the very minimal number of velcro affixing dividers supplied. I ended up adding a couple of inserts from other brands to make it all work. I checked and Sachtler won't even sell spares or extra pieces to help configure, which seems daft.

I also tried the Dr. Bag #5, but found it just too big to comfortably carry (although it had different supplied dividers, one of which I really wanted to poach to make the #4 work better - Sachtler, please sell these as spares!). But the #4 is a good size, and even slings over the shoulder fairly comfortably. If you wanted a build with a longer lens, the #5 might work for you.

This is the bag your looking for.

If you're not flying with the camera, I really like Orca Shoulder Bags for small form-factor cameras like C300/FS7/Red Epic/Dragon.

They protect the camera well, are light and compact, have pockets in the right places, and are tall enough to keep handles, EVFs, monitors, and baseplates attached. I also like Kata (now Manfrotto) bags, but they are not as tall so you always end up having to disassemble.

For shipping or carry-on, you'll want to have a hard case with plenty of foam.

Some great suggestions all round. Will spend a few hours checking all these options out.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!
