One thing I am learning while shooting on Epic is that my focus-pulling skills are a complete joke. Obviously, everyone wants to use the touch-screen functions on Epic, so I was wondering if there are some larger Red LCDs in the works? 7-inch would be good, but with so much resolution, I really think a 9- or 10-inch LCD would be amazing.

A 9 inch touch screen was announced way back when... Don't know its status.

http://red.cachefly.net/OctoberPost.jpg

lists a 9" touchscreen LCD... date '2010' price 'TBD'.

That list IS kept updated, witness the inclusion of the matte box pricing, but I guess the '2010' is no longer strictly correct....

And of course, "Everything in life changes... including our camera specs and delivery dates..."

Although 200-300 PPI is nice, it requires very close viewing to fully utilize it...and strains eyes more...9" version will undoubtedly be a huge advantage for shooting RED cameras and 720p resolution is pretty enough while enabling more comfortable viewing and better "feel" of the shot.

Is the touchscreen LCD out signal limited to 720p, or can it go 1080p?

SmallHD had a 9'' but they discontinued it - if RED users make a bunch of noise - they follow these forums - perhaps they would bring it back. I would totally buy one. And their 5.6'' is very nice. Tom, you're a persuasive fella - tell Reed Phillips we'd love a 9'' monitor with all the same bells and whistles as the little brother...

Yeah, but I mean, would it be able to work with the touchscreen functionality?

Funny...I remember suggesting touch-screen few years ago while most folks were against it, while consumer devices were laughing at the face of professional tools in practicality department. It's nice to see the thrill of Epic users with non-linear access to camera functions...now just allowing MODES function to switch all camera settings with two taps...

Having used 10" 720p on RED I'd say...don't try the 9" version when it comes out if you don't mean to buy it, because you will not want that smile on your face coming off...

Why would the image feed be limited to 720p? ..because of the touch screen data being sent though the same pipe? I seriously doubt it, but good question.

I have no idea... just asking.

Ketch, what 9" are you talking about?

SmallHD will announce a new product at NAB, so fingers crossed... But of course, no touchscreen functionality.

I found a 7 inch monitor just perfect for onboard rig. 9 or 10 would be too big IMO.

But now, having to deal with big fingers, it scares me a bit ;D

USB?

USB?

SmallHD will announce a new product at NAB, so fingers crossed... But of course, no touchscreen functionality.
Now if Red enabled touchscreen via USB on camera, that would make any touch screen monitor compatible...:coolgleamA:

No USB on EPIC/Scarlet... and there is no touchscreen support in R1, so no 3rd party Touchscreen support (yet).

Our 9" is still on it's way, we have gone through 3 rounds already and should see the next ones come in a few months.

All the off-the-shelf panels were inadequate... so we are making our own custom panels.

For everyone that doubted the usability of touchscreen in the past, just ask any of the Epic-M owners how incredible it is...
