Ok so no one ever wants to have to write this but while working a mini mag 480 was secure formated or formated through the Utility window. We shot a few clips on it before realizing it. And pulled the card.
My question is has anyone ever recovered clips from a Mag that was deep formated or formated through the Utility pulldown? And had any success using REDUndead or any other recovery software?
My gut on this one tells me it gone for ever but wanted to reach out here first.

Ive got the computer horsepower here on location but don't want to make someone go through a day of baby sitting the recovery if its not possible.
Anyone got experience on this one.??
Thanks

I don't think you can with a deep format - but - you can start RED Undead and it does a file at a time.
You will know soon , you don't have to wait all day. Just watch the destination folder you set up. If it works at all the files will be there.

The new recordings that are made over old ones are the problem.

I used Undead a few times. Once I was recovering files from multiple different shoots, months apart.

Thanks Brian, Yeah I have already tried the recovery using the RedUndead and only was able to recover the few files we started to shoot on after the card was formatted. Ill try again but with a letter from RED tech Im about to schedule the reshoot.

I was under the impression that a secure delete couldn't be recovered.

I've had success with REDundead once years ago (non-secure format of R1 CF card), but I remember it being needlessly confusing and very finicky. Something like if you enter the command wrong, it would still "run" but wouldn't let you know why it was executed incorrectly (it'd just say it couldn't recover anything). And the difference between correct and incorrect command input was slim (like if you don't put the correct output path it would "run" but not recover anything and wouldn't warn you it's because of a non-existent path).

Anyway, I always hoped RED would build it into RCXp with a more straightforward GUI; select the drive/mag, select output path, hit recover (and cross your fingers), type of thing.
