Hello!

My camera is ready (yay!), but some of my accessories are backordered (woe are all of us!).

So here is my dilemma. I am asking for suggestions. Please don't take this as a "whine" thread.

1. EVF - I can't imagine not having a viewfinder. After speaking to Hoover today, he had a bit more of a realistic take on EVF shipping. Something along the lines of "it's not even quite a trickle". I have the LCD ordered, but are people actually only using the LCD to operate? It's going to be like using a Steadicam without the rig.

2. Dovetail/Bottom Plate - So the basic piece of the production pack isn't shipping. Hoover mentioned that the Arri would be another way to go, but when I put that on the order, he mentioned it was also backordered. A miscommunication on the phone. Are there any other third parties that can provide something? Was there a defect in this piece and RED decided to re-engineer it? (Read somewhere on the forums that it was a bit shaky).

3. Lens mounts - Here is the killer. I own a lot of Canon and Nikon glass. A month ago I realized that RED wasn't making the Canon adapter anymore (how's that for paying attention). It looks like the Birger mount is fantastic and I will be ordering one, but the availability seems a few months out. The Nikon mount is also backordered, but perhaps not as far backordered. Hoover couldn't really give me any estimates on any of the backordered items availability (bummer to be in his shoes).

Not to be melodramatic, but a camera without a lens mount (that I can use), no viewfinder and no bottom plate for mounting kind of puts me in a tight spot.

I went to Element Technica's site to check out their stuff. It looks like they sell the Arri base right through RED so no luck getting a plate there. Is anyone else making something?

Honestly, I can deal with everything except for the lens mount issue. Anyone have another source for the Nikon? I'm definitely sticking with the Birger for the Canon.

Like I said earlier, this isn't a whine thread. Just looking for suggestions to fill the gaps until RED is caught up.

Can't wait to see the camera! Just want to be able to use it!

Best!

If you search on Nikon Mount, it seems some have made their own. Try contacting them directly...

You still need what's in the basic pack to mount batteries and whatnot, It works fine and the cam can be attached directly to the plate of your head.

Hello,

Cool! I'll do a bit more digging on the Nikon mount. Thanks for the additional info on the production pack. It's kind of hard to make out on the website.

Best,

[/HTML]I am RED one 768 and I have no EVF and ( incompleted made production pack ) no based mount for my rods !!!

WAIT seams to be the hardest word from RED to their customers with full paid up.

regarding #1:
I used my Red for 6 months w/o the EVF and it worked just fine (Using only the Red LCD). Of course now that I have an EVF I wont work w/o it, but I got along great w/o it too.

The Birger mount seems like it will be ready in less than a few months too.

SIM makes a 15mm studio spaced bridgeplate, with included adapter for 15mm lightweight. I think these are available right now and will function like ETs plate--that is, they work with ARRI standard stuff.

Hi ATF:

See this post. Both Ben Wolf and Jedi666 have the bottom plate and dovetail for sale. Ben Wolf because he upgraded to Element Technica.
