There is currently a commercial running for Subaru called "Jr Driver".

This commercial is beautiful and I wonder why? I know its probably the lens, and it looks like there is diffusion being used. I wanted some opinions on how to get this look. There is one scene where the kid is sitting in a toy car and the car is a creamy, smooth texture HERE. Is this overhead silk? Filter on the front of the lens? Im always striving for a creamy diffused look, and it never quite gets there for me. Ive been using Pro Mist filters, and now Ive invested in cinema lenses, but is this enough? Is this the right approach?

Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated.

Lens and filters is not the solution. It's all in the lighting. The idea is to use a large diffused light source. Yes a large overhead silk will get you there. Similarly, fill light via lighting or bounce can achieve similar results.

The grade has tremendous effect on the final look too.

Chris Soos was the D.P. - why not just contact him and ask how he achieved the look?

100% my money is on a clean shoot and all looks applied in post... but only he will know for sure.

Thanks Glen, yes I already tried to contact him, but haven't gotten a reply. I will see what he says.
