  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

STUDENTS?

I bought a high priced saxophone in France and had the tax (22%!) paid back to me after getting a stamp on a form from customs leaving France. They verified the serial number and signed/stamped the form. I sent back a copy to the store I bought it from and they refunded the tax.

I don't know if they have the same sort of deal leaving America, but they should...

I just figured if I was going to be in LA at around the same time the camera was released I might as well get it while I was there which would at least save on postage. I only mentioned the whole customs tax thing because I have heard of other people doing it. I didn't mean to imply that I would be doing it myself; I too find it unethical and dishonest at the very least. Anyway I've edited the post to avoid any more confusion but I'm still wondering about that sales tax question if anyone could clear that up.

As illegal as it may be, honestly, you're way over-reacting. I say this says very little about this person's integrity / professional attitude, and the fact that you would pass on him for something he merely suggested, shows more about you than about him.

I don't think so at all. The people you hire or surround yourself with in a professional capacity speaks volumes about who you are and what you stand for. As an example... would I hire someone with a known drug habit? No way. It could not only affect productivity but it also reflects badly on the team I have assembled. All of whom are clean living, honest guys.

I'm a firm believer that the company you keep reflects directly on who you are. As such I would never hire someone who advocated dodgy financial behaviour. Of course, the OP has clarified his position so it's now really a moot point.
