Being the noobie I was mucking around the menus.. etc etc.. now for some reason I can't change my fps to anything other then 23.98 from 4k and down, it just yellows out.....

help...

its not stuck at 23.98... however when I change to anything else it yellows out however I am still recording at my set fps. I almost got excited when I clicked on 5k and it still read 23.98!!! but no.. lol. I will try and reload the firmware.. that should do it.

Ok.. figured it out.. its the Varispeed... its normal to yellow out.. the weird thing is.. it was never yellow before..

The yellow FPS appears when You are not recording at the speed of your project FPS. That also means You are not recording AUDIO!
So if You set Your project at 23.98 and then change the actual speed of the clip you are about to record to something else - it will become yellow and not include audio in the recording...

That makes total sense...but I'm wondering why its turning yellow now.
What did I do to specify the project speed. Is there no way I can record audio at 30fps without having to setup the project time every time?

You only need to setup the project timebase once. It doesn't change unless you change it, or do a firmware reinstall or factory reset. The control is in Menus>Settings>Project>Timebase.

If your Record framerate is not the same as the Project Timebase framerate, you are by definition, in Varispeed mode and can't record audio on camera.

Dean - please download the free Scarlet Operation Guide from here:

https://www.red.com/downloads

Then read every single page while you confirm everything with the camera at the same time.
This will be the most productive afternoon you can spend with your camera...

Hi Peter, Thats actually how I found out what I was doing and why it was turning yellow. However I just don't recall it ever turning yellow when I changed FPS on the fly. But being the newbie i am.. i might have just over looked it.
