Mike, if that does not work for you- let me know.. I can upload as well.

Hi everyone-

Here is my take on what happened that day. Mike, George and I showed up to the fedex depot and picked up the camera and ran like hell to make the launch.

The camera is amazing.. No question- I liked the monitor as well, which I was surprised. Most monitors I use are not really good. The RED monitor is excellent. HOWEVER---- Focus is very very tough. On the monitor, it looked very sharp, but when we got back to look at the footage, it seemed a bit soft. On TV I can only imagine how amazing that image will look. On a big screen, it most likely will look a tad soft.

Overall- the camera worked very well. It only made me start counting down the days for mine to arrive.

We even had a news photographer spend about 20 minutes shooting us!!! And shooting about 50 pics of us working with the camera! He had read a lot about it and was very interested in that camera. Mike and I felt like celebs!

My surprise was later on when we actually loaded the footage into REDALERT. I learned exactly what raw images looked like from the camera, and I was very nervous at first. They just appear to be bland.

After playing around with ONLY Red Alert, I was able to make the images pop out and really come across as striking. (now I know why you guys want those raw images so bad. Mike and I will make sure you all have them so you can play around with them.)

This camera will change everything. It will change how you think..

I can say this- It is not a film camera, and it is not a video camera. It is something very amazing, and very different. I am ready to join you guys soon once my camera shows up.

Mike----- Thank you for a fantastic day! It was great working with you.

Jon

Yeah, the upload stopped on Redrelay almost immediately after it started. Not sure if he went to macgregor or what but all I have is 1.69 megs of the r3d!

---- about the dust on the sensor----

You are correct. It was a bit windy out there, and we worked on trying to get the lens set up right along with everything else. I know that we had the sensor exposed for about 30 seconds to the elements. We were trying to be quick about leaving it open, but it could not really be helped.

Be very very very careful. It could still be dirt on the lens, but Mike, I am betting it is dust on the sensor. Double check that!

Again- we never picked that up on the monitor. So as amazing as the monitor is, focus and dust on the sensor is so hard to pick up.

Be careful......

Okay- You guys let me know as well because I have the same files. I can get those over. I will let Mike take another stab at it. Let me know tomorrow and I will set up an upload.

Looks like you had some fun and good time down there at KSC :) (except forgoten charger)
Please keep uploading your footage, so we can have some fun too.

if you shot at f/22 I think it will not be as sharp as if you shot at say f/8 or f/16, just from the diffraction. The small example still frame looks great, though.

yes, true.

We did shoot at f-22. No NDs or no polarizer. So this is a simple as it gets. I do want to rent a killer lens and see what happens.

Aqua or Statusfilms, plz plz :bye2:

Guys,

Can you help guide me on how to upload this thing? The clip will be about 2 gigs.

I can set it up and do it overnight tonight.

I think Mike tried to upload it but had no luck.

Tell me what I need to do- I have the same clips Mike does.

File name is: STS122©MichaelSHastings.R3D but the server may change that
upload time is 15 hours and I have serious doubts whether BELLSOUTH can hold a connection that long.

George the original file is:

A006_C002_901226_004.R3D

If you think you have a faster connection.

The fine print:

Re: Copyright. I am putting this out there for REDUSERs to be able to play with it in REDCINE and get some idea of what is possible with REDONE with a high quality but low cost still camera lens. And particularly to see what different people come up with color grading, sharpening, etc. Feel free to post any size file on REDUSER or with REDRELAY for evaluation purposes by REDUSERs and/or Cine/video professionals.

This should have some value as stock footage with MammothHD or similar stock agencies, so I retain all rights - particularly for any commercial use. So for any other postings - be reasonable, and try not to do anything that would devalue that. Let the Golden Rule be your guide.

Thanks, and have fun.

What about a nice watermarked 1080 h.264 file for the rest of the people? I'd love to see this footage...of course I don't want to download a 2GB file.

I have no problem to downlod 2GB or more, thanx! :w00t:
Plz dont cancel the .R3D upload.
