hi everyone

i am going to shot a short soon in israel, in the very middle of our summer, all exteriors. i am shooting with the old processor , iso 320 . the average measurement in my meter is 16.
my preferred aperture is 2.8 , which mean i have to loose 5 stops.
did anyone try to shoot a whole film in shutter 100? or more? doesn't it look weird?

is there is any other solution then putting a lot of nd's?
thanks in advance

dave

IMO you recognize a 100th shutter only at fast movements and they don't become jerky like with a 45 degree, they just get sharper. But that would just give you one stop. Maybe you also want to consider a Pol Filter what would give you another stop and than add ND's to your needs. There is nothing bad with a strong ND but watch out the infrared pollution. Use an infrared ND or Hot mirror

Yes. . . this IR pollution is a very serious issue, although it has been extensively covered on REDUser. I will never forget, when we bought "Lewis" in April or March 2008, seeing a thread titled "RED and the infraRED." I ignored it, figuring that it was just people talking about how to do infrared photography. Boy was I wrong. (I was also not alone in that assessment.)

You'll NEED either normal ND filters with a hot mirror or else IR+ND filters to deal with this issue or else your blacks will look purple, any green foliage (although I imagine you're not dealing with much of that where you'll be) will look sickly, and everything else will not "just not right at all."

Good luck.

Stephen

I don't know if the IR pollution issue changed with later #s, but I shot in that part of the world with a 2000 series Red and had no issues using a pola and an n9. No IR issues at all.
