Hi redusers,

I got some stripped screws attempting to remove the PL mount and now it's stuck.:waaa: The provided allen doesn't work, and I had to use a better fitting one from another set...

My question is, where do I take it to get the screws drilled out? All the local machine shops I called refused to attempt it. Any ideas? The stripped screws are probably my fault, but this is a major problem if the mounts are supposedly designed to be swapped out easily-it ain't easy! Thanks.

Koa, you are right in asking local machine shops to bore out a stripped screw. If you need us to take care of that for you, we can. Just use the technical support webform on RED.com/support to get it on our radar.

Thanks, BC

Thanks Brent,

I spoke to Brian/Sean, and just waiting for the fedex ticket. Thanks so much for the awesome customer service.

Best, Koa

Hi Koa,

By stripped screw do you mean that the actual threads are stripped? Or that the hex head is camed out? If it's just the hex key socket what we use to do was take an old or broken tap and grind four sides on it with a slight taper, just enough taper so that it does not bottom out in the hex key hole. Then put the tap in a tap wrench and insert in stripped out screw head and give it a LIGHT tap so that the four edges lock up in the hole and give it a twist (counter clockwise). Worked almost every time. If not, it gets a bit more complicated and if you don't have the right tooling and the experience it's best left to someone who does.

I heard they were working on a new screw head.

Yes the provided allen with the nikon mount from red has too much play.
