On our Epic we get strange additional files from some shots. No, I'm not talking about the chunks needed in spanning because of the file system on our SSDs.

These are files of erratic size and the effect is not repeatable. The content is identical to the clip that was shot, as far as I can see, and they are in the same folder.

Anybody seen this before?

Do a screengrab - your description is too vague.

Thanks for getting back to me, here is a screenshot:

TIA

Yeah that's normal. When you import the clip it links them together to create the entire clip. Each of those "files" is a segment of the full R3D. I don't have a better understanding of why but it happens occasionally.

As others have said all the files in the folder will be treated as one clip by any R3D aware program. This is normal since FAT32 has a limit on file size so the clip needs to span multiple files. However, multiple files will also be created in pre record mode. This may explain why they are of "erratic size" and "not repeatable".

I think pre-record might be the explanation, thanks, Trent.

I know the ordinary spanning, but that would normally generate 4 GB chunks.

@Joshua: did you use the Media Browser or did you drag-n-drop?

I have this same issue, but when I import them directly into Premier Pro CS6 it still sees them as separate files :S

Use Premiere Pro Media Browser, not drag and drop or direct import.

I was about to chime in on the same issue, why use a file system that has a limitation of 4GBs? exFat is now supported in windows 2003, vista, 7, 8, and even xp support was added. The advantages are limit-less, since we are using RED RAW kinda goes in hand with it, no?

Will Red ever move to ExFAT so we don't have to see multiple files?
