FrameForge 3D Studio 2

I get it on NAB2007 and never use it until last year. Is working great for me , you can do everything you want , change lenses , use dolly etc, Even DOF :)
Huge library of ready items , actors , cars and etc.

I use Celtx, and think it's great as a screenwriting package, but haven't yet used the storyboarding feature. I would be surprised if it were very good. Maybe I'll play with it tonight and let you know what I think of it.

Celtx is great for screenwriting but FrameForge is leaps and bounds ahead of it when it comes to storyboarding.

If you were looking for an open source analog for Frame Forge, you should probably check out Moviestorm. It is a machinima style movie making package that is available for PC and Macs. The Mac is a more recent porting so it isn't as stable as it is on the PC - you might want to check that you meet the requirements.

It isn't as dedicated and single purpose as Frame Forge but it does have camera formats and lens selection so you can set up the framing and action for still grabs. For the ambitious, instead of storyboarding static shots, you could use it to create animatics.

Against my recommendations, they settled on Cal3D rather than Collada as their interchange format so it isn't as easy as it could be to get models into the program. There are free as well as pay content and the community is creating more by the day so you can probably find characters, locations and props to be repurposed to just about any storyboarding needs. The ambitious can email the company for a (free) modders license that allows for the importing and modding of 3D models to work within Moviestorm. The Google Sketchup Warehouse has pretty much anything you can think of in the area of props and there are a few people using the open source Blender 3D to create original content.

Like most open source software it is scantily documented and very much a work in progress - but for those who can't or don't want to outlay the dollars for a commercial program - or want to get their feet wet before doing so - Moviestorm is something that should be checked out. Who knows, it may fill every need you have and save you a few hundred bucks while unleashing some creativity.

Want to add 1 more comment .

As dop i am using FrameForge 3D Studio 2 , not for directors
storybourd , i am using it for me and my crew . I am printing scene
and all my crew know for 80% where for example dolly must be
installed ,or where will be light . It is taking time for me before
shooting , but when you will more necessary time on set .
About Light , in FrameForge 3D Studio 2 i did not found any solution
to use my light , and put lights in scene .
Biger problem is person how will do it job for director , that
man must spend time on forums collecting models , objects and etc .
And also this person mast have minimum 3d animation knowledge :) .
We time that for some commercials we ask over VFX Animation team to do story bourds in Maya
with spherical pictures from locations . All depends on time and
budget of project . For movie it makes thens to pay salary for 1
person how will do it for you .
