We all get caught up in gear, having to have the latest and greatest, thinking it will make us a better filmmaker, and take us from 0 to 100% immediately.

What I, and I'm guessing quite a few others out there seem to forget, is that cameras are just a tool, and the story, is always king. Look at things that go viral on youtube, facebook, etc. Most aren't shot with what we'd considered a good camera - most being an iPhone.

Recently, I partnered with an amazing organization - Villages in Partnership (website - villagesinpartnership.org ) - to help develop concepts and create a series of films to help raise money/awareness for all the good work they are doing in the heart of Malawi.

This is just the first of the series.

Shot on the GH5 with Canon L Series Lenses and a 1/4 BPM
Cinematography by Steve Vanderheide (had to hire out on this one because I was double-booked)
Edited in FCPX
Graded with Cinema Grade

Even with a GH5, with the right story and cinematographer at the helm, anything is possible with a great story! Happy shooting!

We are certainly blessed with an abundance of high quality creative tools in all price ranges these days.
It makes telling stories like this with very decent aesthetic qualities possible with good talent and even the most meager of resources.

I watched a recent film by Chewetel Ejiofor with a similar theme lat night. "The Boy Who Harvested the Wind"

Lovely video Chris. Did some recent work in Uganda and can echo the feelings - we had to shoot the whole thing on Sony mirrorless due to location constraints.
