  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Storm freeze after reconecting R3D

I tried single clip.

Didn't work here...

This is bizarre! Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this soon!

When you went into final cut was the media offline?
Did the clip have in and out points set when added to the timeline? i.e. trimmed
What language is your Mac set to?

thanks,
Dan

Mac set to English.

In and outpoints and playback fine in fcp.

It is a 10 minutes finnished edit in fcp.

Export xml

Xml imports into storm, but without images.

Reconnect (all or single) = boom

That said, it also also appears to give a framerate error/warning when going into FCP. I can't read it as it's a bit small on the screen. Can you send us a screen grab of that and also the XML that you used in the video? I can then get one of our guys here to check the XML for anomalies.

Scratch that regarding the screengrab, I can see it in 720p. The XML would still be very useful though.

thanks,
Dan

Hi Vincent, thank you very much for the youtube clip. I think the issue starts early on and I'm concerned that the media was offline going to FCP even though you generated the proxies. I think this is where it starts to go wrong and probaly has something to do with re-linking in FCP.

Also is there audio on the youtube clip? I couldn't hear any but wasn't sure if it was my machine.

Finally, I also saw in the video that you tried dragging some clips to the Timeline and it wouldn't allow the drop. This is because the Timeline won't accept mixed framerates. :smile5:

I'll watch the video a few more times for clues.

many thanks,
Dan

I send you the element tomorow, i try with another REd footage and it work perfectly but i still having error when i open my xml for the first time with FCP.

Okay, thanks guys. The black clips and the offsets being incorrect should be resolved in the next beta drop.
The issue of the media being offline going into FCP was caused by having the material on an external drive. This should also be resolved in the next beta.

I'm still trying to repro the hang but hopefully with the above fixes it'll go away.

thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan
Great to know you guys are on it.

Do you have a date for the next beta? Would really like to use storm but with this bug is a no go right now.

Cheers
Rory

Hi Rory, are we trying to hoover up a couple of last issues before the next beta drop. Hopefully it should be in the next day or two. :smile5:

thanks,
Dan

Thanks for letting us know Dan.
I'm looking forward to conforming from XML and finally having a working tool, which has been RED's greatest short coming.

Hi Gunleik, apparently Storm only works with 1 Track at the moment, I just tried importing a 1 video track XML and it works in Beta7.

That is correct. However, I'm still keen to repro Gunleik's crash when he reconnects his Media.

thanks,
Dan

LOL sry, Dan.

Working somewhere else, on Leopard today.
Not the right place for 64 bit testing...

Back on Snow Leopard over the weekend.
Will test b7 then, and try

(Hadn't commented to this in public usually...)

so they are separate issues then?

I first had the crash on reconnect, then with another beta XML would not import at all, then they needed to be 1 video track only. Now I'm able to import a 1 track XML and reconnect the media with no issues, apart from it only being 1 track so my devolves on the 2nd layer don't come across.

I try the beta 6 and 7 and it working perfectly now. My configuration have not change, the only change is i have more free space on my intern RAID 0. The xml genrate by Storm open now perfectly in FCP without errors.

I have make a test with 2 hours of 2K ProRes proxy generate with final cut long time ago and the reconformation by Storm work perfectly.

No Problem Gunleik. :smile5:

Hi Rory, yep separate issues. :smile5:

I think the acid test would be to get an XML that reconnects correctly in b7 and re-try it in b4 so that we can satisfy ourselves that the crash has gone.

That is great news! :smile5: We did have another issue were Storm would crash if the disk fills up. I'll check the status on that. So to summarise:

a. Multi track will be supported fully in b8

b. The reconnect crash might have gone away in b7 (unless Gunleik can repro it).

c. Storm can fail if the disk fills up (I'll check the status on this).

Thanks guys! :smile5:
