  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Storm Event at RED Studios Hollywood on March 10th

Ted just demonstrated 5000 ISO in a dark room off the 1080P feed and it was completely usable - Enjoy your 15 minutes Alexa - DTE on Epic is here and your short reign is about to end... Badly.

EDIT: Il post a pic later - jaw on floor

I thought it would be silly to buy a ticket to LA just for this.

Seems I was wrong?

I hope to hear a lot more about the event on here.

Well... looks like it would've been fun to be there today. Loving STORM though, wish I had more time and projects to use it on lately. Epic will change that when it does finally arrive here. Can't wait to visit the Foundry at NAB.

AND he had the lens set at 2.8!

It's true - any A.C.s that have been ooing and aahing about Alexa will be totally knocked out by EPIC.
The 5" touch screen is also a knockout from the viewpoint of adjusting camera settings (think 2-3 seconds per adjustment, without ever fiddling with buttons, or taking your eyes off the screen).
It's got a great high-res picture, also, with fantastic off- axis viewability.

It will be a superior camera from operating and A.C.ing position, and as far as image quality.
Seeing EPIC images projected huge at 4k leaves any viewer marvelling at what human beings can do.

...Just wait for the response after NAB. The whole industry is going to change.

Storm will be the defacto DIT software by rme end of 2011 from Epic to 5D
Just awesome software and for <$400 = no brainer
Really great app - but Epic at 4K on Reds 40 foot screen = insane good

I swear it's film - no video sharpness - resution galore
Definitely worth the $500 last min ticket to see 4K
As it's meant to be - projected - Mark P's EPIC NY city footy at ISO 2000
Is Soooo Blade Runner / sexy to beat the band and no grade!
I want my Epic X yesterday

Then add HDR on the big screen OMFG - Game over

I saw Jim chompin on about an inch left on his Cuban for a second but he disappeared behind a black curtain before the show started - I so wanted to see what was behind the big black curtain

Oh and I held Scarlett fixed - zoom in and out
Cool kit - but all I care about is EPIC

Held both Epic and Scarlet Fixed 2/3" in my hands tonight, the menu configuration and interface has to be seen to be believed, it's an actual touch-screen GUI that makes all other camera menus (including Red One) look like MS-DOS

I arrived a bit late, but it was still awesome. Actually, the highlight of the night was hearing Mark rant to a little group about the director's vision, the right relationship of others on set to the director, and what makes great films. It was awesome and inspiring to me :) Thanks Mark it was an honor to meet you.

And of course, great to see Ketch again, Joseph, David and others ... :thumbup1:

Had a long conversation with Storm's project manager. Sorry, but I can't recall his name. He impressed me greatly with his knowledge and the professional pedigree. Apparently, he hails from Digital Vision and that only can mean, that Storm has great future in utilizing tools for look creation. By his own admission, it will never be Baselight, but it really doesn't have to be. He explained the difficulty of reintroducing GPU accelerated video with applied look in Storm back into the Red Rocket video stream for real time output. For that they require some Red assistance. Once they will figure this out, there is no reason, why Storm couldn't be used for rudimentary grading. They have some interesting ideas for dealing with other types of video, other than RAW, they're working on some unexpected hardware solutions. Stay tuned...
Avid support is in the road map and so is AAF, which to me is very cool.
They are listening on the licensing issue. They know something needs to be done and they exploring other solutions, but they're not keen on the dongle. Said that, they may do that after all...
All in all, an impressive team with clear plan of attack.

I think one of two things need to happen (or both).

(1) Each member needs to upload an avatar of yourself up on REDuser
(2) Name tags are to be worn at these events.

I'm pleased that people can find me easily via my hat if they wish to see me. However, I hate feeling like the idiot that doesn't know who the other person is. :D
