  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

STORM by The Foundry

...

The feedback we are getting is truly amazing - as it should be. Even though I have been involved with Storm's development from the very beginning, myself I can't still believe what the brains at The Foundry have come up with in such a short time. Ultimately - in my honest opinion - the main thing I like about RED is that they have brought a traditionally very expensive pro cine gear to such a affordable level that all common folks have access to the very best technology for digital cinematography and there is no longer (technical) difference between hundreds-of-millions-dollars Hollywood productions and hundreds-of-thousands-dollars Joe Blow production, or even just a thousands-of-dollars Jane Blow production - leaving the difference to artistic expression and talent... You can find this same revolutionary approach with The Foundry and Storm. Tools that would traditionally cost hundreds-of-thousands are now embodied in a SW that will retail at $375...

Wow Peter, what a great post! goes far beyond just a `quick update from IBC`..many thanks. The paragraph above really captures just how revolutionary things are,and the wave really hasn`t peaked yet by any means..

- there will be secondaries and much, much more - wait for the full roadmap announcement...

I've been so wanting this

Here's the best part. As of November 1st You will be able to register at The Foundry's website and download FREE version of the SW to use until the end of January. No watermarks, no limitations, no restrictions on use - go ahead and use it on a production... From February 1st it will then become paid app, if we can call it that, because at $375,- this is a steal...

WTF !?! Slaying 'em !

Thanks for the update Peter. It does look like an insanely good app for the price.

looks awesome...absolutely the right tool.

can't wait to get my hands on the demo...

will R3D trimming be enabled in the demo? i badly want this tool.

R3D trim is NOT what is exciting about this app. R3D trim is a feature that RED will put in their SDK when it's 100% bullet proof - which - logic would dictate you will see this in RCX before you see it anywhere else. There are a number of posts from Deanan and Rob on the subject -

Sure Mark, but I will absolutely NOT cry the day I can mediamanage an r3d project prior to online....

100%. My point is that there are many reasons to be excited about STORM - the beta I am running now is awesome. Everyone seems to be jumping on the R3D trim - and I just want to clarify that is a RED thing not a Foundry thing - at least that is my understanding.

I'll write a post tonight in this thread about why I'm excited about STORM.

R3D trimming will be exciting when it appears in *any* app.

But, I'm sure you're right that we will see it in RCX first, although RED does have a history of abandoning certain endeavors if they see a third-party doing it well. I would have thought that we would have seen this feature by now in RCX, since it has been a high-demand objective.

Agreed. There are way too many great things in Storm including the fact that it's a Foundry product and they're cool guys :)

We already have that in the current version. I have been demoing this feature a lot. I am able to isolate green leaves in a shot and make them look like autumn reddish leaves without touching the rest of the image. I can do that while the clip is playing in real-time. And this is on a laptop without RR...

 Peter

- while the initial development is on Mac platform, Windows and Linux versions will follow...

Great news! Any idea when?

Is the Foundry aware that, right now, there is a MASSIVE need for a tool that can help to organize/view/delete R3D files on PCs, due to a lack of a Quicktime R3d proxy codec? This feature alone would cause me to purchase STORM, just so I could browse and delete and sort my R3D files efficiently and conveniently.

Tom, can you view R3D files in Adobe Bridge CS5?

Tom, I remember you were asking about Clipfinder PC version and by that time I couldn't mention about the STORM. STORM will do R3D trimming, listing and more advanced tagging, so pretty much has everything and more.

Do others know how fast TF can release for multiple platform? I'd say STORM could be simpler than releasing something like NUKE, but RR support is something new for TF I suppose. PC support must be important for TF to announce this time.

I'm with Tom on this. We absolutely need this on PC/Win environment ASAP. To me it's mostly about secondary colour correction at a reasonable price. The rest of it is gravy since Adobe CS5 has complete integration of R3D metadata, RMD sidecar files and online workflow already, meaning I never have to leave my edit program until it's time to do secondary CC or render to the final output format (like Blu-ray etc).

Cheers,

Paul

Add another vote for PC version too.
