Approx how much storage would I need for a 10min short film. Given that I will be keeping RAW and transcoded files (still to work out the best option there) and that the DIT will be keeping a backup on set. (Or do they provide their own storage??)

Cheers

There are a lot of variables involved here. How many cameras? Which Redcode will you be using? What file type will the Transcodes be?

On a single camera shoot, shooting RC36. I average about 100-200GB per day of RAW footage. Depending on your transcodes, you could add at least another 1/3 of that.
But depending on who's behind the camera, that could easily multiply quickly as well.

As far as your backups and storage. It's always recommended to have multiple copies of each day. So put your footage on Individual drives so that each day is safe separate from the rest.
The DIT may have his or her own storage, but Production should always have at least a master and one additional copy of all the footage.
I always have productions buy the G-drive 500GB or 1TB drives for EACH day. The size of the drive comes back to how much footage you are shooting.
At the Very least, have one larger Raid storage solution as your overall master, and then individual drives for each days backups. But I would recommend the first way.
Hope that helps.
