I always take pictures of high-priced items, with me and the guy at the counter visible in the pictures. Paranoid? Maybe. +1 on glass held high for Red. Are they perfect? No. Do they rock? Yes.

It's a real problem between FedEx and me. Last week I dropped off an expensive shipment at an Authorized FedEx staffed shipping center and asked for a proof that I'd dropped off the box (I do this for every expensive shipment). They always look at me as if I were from outer space. I tell them, what if the shipment goes missing before you scan it into your system, I'd have no proof that I actually dropped off my shipment. It would be my word against theirs. They always answer that this never happens....right.

I find it really strange that they can't provide some kind of receipt or something. We're in 2012....

Man, I totally agree with you. I've always worried a bit about this when I send rental stuff off... I know the guys at my local FedEx store, but still... if there's no proof that I dropped off $20k worth of stuff and the shipment is uninsured (most of the time it is, as my equipment insurance policy covers stuff while it's in transit) and it ends up being my word against theirs... FedEx is going to side with their employees to save themselves the $20k. Not very comforting at all.
