Hello all,

You might see this message more than once, I'm terribly sorry, I wasn't sure on the most appropriate place for posting.

Red One, serial number 1890, was collected from our facility in West London for dry hire. It was due back Tuesday the 3rd. We have yet to see it, and are unable to get in touch with the hirer. If anybody is offered a Red One matching this number for sale could you please get in touch with either myself on 020 8995 4664, or your local police department. I'll keep you updated as the situation develops.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear that Sebastian.

Keep us updated on the Stolen Cameras thread.

We will mark as stolen in our database. Update us if it does turn up.

Really sorry to hear about this Sebastian.

Would it be possible to give the info you have for the people who rented it, or at least the information they used to pose as a "real" renter?

I think it would be good so that others can be aware not to "rent" to the suspected criminals. No?

let us know more about the hirer - name would be great, all details you have. maybe you have a copy of his ID so we could have a picture.

as there are many tries to get equipment on this way more information would be great !

Really sorry to hear this Sebastian. Shameful little gits.

Brent, is the database available for public viewing? I've never seen it myself.

Paul

I work in a rental house/in-house studio and see Red Ones, both well-worn and clean, coming in on an almost daily basis. I'm always tempted to check out serial numbers on the Ones that I've never seen before, but they're always too hard to get to. Sometimes these guys are pretty nervous. I would be nice if the serial numbers were more 'public' with their displays.

Thanks for all your well wishes. We're not yet sure whether we're able to release details of the hirer. UK data protection legislation is getting really tight, and I'm not totally sure how it relates to this kind of situation.

The good news is the side of the camera is engraved with the company name, Prokit. This information is on the CF module. I am aware this is removable, but that should certainly set alarm bells off.

Will keep you updated as the situation develops.

We'll keep an eye out for "Prokit" on the side of any cameras that come through Copenhagen.

Any info on the renters would be great too. I couldn't see how you would break any laws by sharing info on suspected criminals? That seems bass-ackwards?!

Best of luck/justice.

Ever heard of innocent until proven guilty ?

You cannot go around saying you suspect someone of a crime, obviously, no ?

Cheers,
Damien

You've taken my camera and you haven't returned it within the agreed time or explained the reason for the delay - you are guilty!!:emote_hanged:

How do I know you are telling the truth ?

I'm not saying you can't do anything. You report to the police. You give THEM the name and any info. Obviously you might tell people you know and people you work with who you think stole you camera. But you don't post on internet or in any public space accusations, until proven guilty.

Hey, I'm not defending thieves or criminals, because their are also criminals out there sticking accusations on innocent people, and their are innocent people mistakenly accusing innocent people. The right to being considered innocent until proven guilty is to protect us, the innocent.

I'll add, I feel for whomever gets anything stolen, it sucks. I hate thieves and I want to bash their head in... but hey, I'm non-violent, so I'll turn anyone I suspect of a crime over to the police, they can figure it out. But I won't hand them over to the lynch mob.

Cheers,
Damien

Having said that, you are entitled to your opinion.

When the likelihood of the crime in question having been performed by said criminal is almost 100% positive and the likely hood of that same person not being responsible is almost nil, then your argument becomes moot. Anything else at that point is just bureaucratic whitewash. Especially if it's a RED -- I am sure that the thief forgot to clean the camera...or he washed it! :nono:

Well no offense but whos to say the guy isnt dead in a ditch somewhere and the camera is sitting in his bedroom.
Innocent until proven guilty. Make precautions like informing RED and the community but dont tar and feather the guy himself just yet,

@Damian, if you are labeled a suspected criminal, you are, in many places, innocent until proven guilty. I said nothing about "bashing heads" or "lynch mobs" ...those are strong words and as a non-violent guy myself I don't encourage vigilante-ism nor would I express desires to do such inhumane things.

On this forum, in this thread, I am interested in supporting Sebastian and to hear how things end with his equipment. One of my reasons for asking him to share info is because I don't want to get duped by the same people.
Of course it would be a shame if the person is "dead in a ditch", but it doesn't make it less reasonable to ask for some identifying characteristics or information to raise awareness. I don't think anyone here is looking to band together and track anyone down for their own form of personal justice.

My lunch break is over and so I won't spend more time on this post.

best,
Steffen

Somebody listed a link to a guy who got caught a few weeks ago in London.
Can someone point me to that post or send me a PM who it was, i seems it was the same guy who stole equipment in Switzerland, it was a Red kit and Sony PVW-700 Kit.

I work for them a lot and they want to know if this was the same guy.
there was a youtube video of him from security cameras, but i can´t find the link anymore.

thanks
Manuel
