  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Stolen red #1605

also.. something I do..
I have a List of every camera i have ever worked with and who those cameras belong too.
I also put down any problems I have had with that particular camera, so that next time.. if that serial is on my list, I will know what the issues are, and whether or not to let that camera leave the prep floor or not.

I will start adding a list of known stolen cameras, as long as we can have a dedicated thread to known stolen cameras... Most likely, anything stolen will be out of this country same day it was stolen.... but you never know

Paul, how can you see the pin number on the r3d file metadata? With which application and where to look?
I use WinHex on the PC (can be used without limitation, registration is not mandatory) and the PIN number can be seen along with the other embedded info at the top of each file (and frame after that):

In this case my camera #378 has the PIN number of 102-468-B5C which you can see in part of the string above.

HTH!

Haven't heard a thing...
No camera, no news.
Put in the insurance claim, gave statements, etc. Waiting to hear back.

I just want my camera back.
And Steve's Angenieux 15-40, Zsolt's sound package, Luis' Pro tower, my iMac, and on and on. They knew exactly what to take.

I hate to say it, but there is zero chance you will ever see your gear again.
Its probably well out of the country before you ever realized it was gone.
Meanwhile, how goes the insurance 'dance'?
I've been there, done that, threatened to sue and finally got paid. I think I was lucky and got settled for my $330K in about 4 weeks. Had a kick-ass lawyer do a little 'Jack Bauer' on them :-)
But I've searched ebay for every cable, case, filter, mattebox, battery, camera body, mag, anything and have never seen a single microbe of my gear ever turn up.
Rejoice in your insurance check [when you get it] and buy new stuff, move on with your life.
Just NEVER trust again.
Demand coverage from eveyone, never let your gear out of your sight.

My wife Daren Hicks and I were producing the film REPO CHICK when the equipment was stolen from the VERY locked room. The thief bashed the lock off the thick door to gain entry. We have never rented the equipment to anyone but friends, because you never know how others will treat your stuff, or actually you DO know how they will treat it!

I'm waiting to hear from the insurance company, there was a large loss which they will no doubt try to limit. I'd rather have my equipment back... I have already moved on.

Thank you for the thoughts.

This sucks...however, If nothing else with the Scarlet/EPIC comes the portablility. If you do nothing else, take the brain with you. Just get a tiny pelican syle case or a hard case of some kind. It would fit in your bag! IF the brain is the main thing of worth - take it with you. its only the size of the palm of your hand.

I'm sorry for your loss, but your production sound quite interesting. I love Repo Man, but are you telling me that it wasn't a documentary? All that I know may have to be put into new perspective now. Anyone have a definitive Lo Jack like solution for production equipment? Its sort of ghetto, but relatively cheap... since iPhones now have the tracker capability built into it and their batteries should last for a couple of days... perhaps an iPhone / 2nd line on your plan could be hidden in a case for overnight storage scenarios.

EDIT **I just tested the phone locator feature, it missed by a couple of hundred feet, but it would at least give someone an idea of where to look... for inside jobs, the police could cross reference employee's addresses with the suspected location.

After 6 months plus, Zurich Insurance has finally paid our claim, minus about 15 - 20%. Now I have to go back and fight for the rest of the money owed. Pain in the a$$.

We have just returned from Venice Film Festival where REPO CHICK was in the low budget competition, no we did not win... The film is rather unusual and quirky, here is a link to some info on it. There is also a link on the page to an on stage interview with Luis Flores Jr. talking about the RED and how we used it in the production which was 95% greenscreen.

Repo Chick looks very interesting. Loved the youtube chat with the DIT.

Is there a trailer anywhere? Couldn't find one.
