Just wanted to see what most were planning on doing...And see what someone from RED thought?

Are most of you planning on purchasing some accessories such as media and chargers beforehand?

To RED, I can understand not answering since your trying to keep everything pretty quiet, but if we're getting pretty close to shooting around the time of the release of the Scarlet, would it be wise to go ahead and purchase some accessories at this point? Or should stocks of things such as RedVolts and SSD's be up to par to handle the storm of orders coming RED's way?

I'm nervous both ways, I'm nervous to order stuff ahead of hand and find I don't need it or it's already included in a package, at the same time I don't want to be in a similar situation as some are waiting for back ordered components to be trickling in.

yes, I totally agree. Rather order some extra stuff beforehand, but still hope that there will be a package that might have most everything I need to shoot at a slightly better price. two to three versions of the kit would be cool, an "everything" package, a "all of the essentials" and the "bare minimum" package.

Unfortunately, as my budget's tight and we don't yet have a full-kit price for Scarlet, I literally can't afford to be wrong. Being wrong, for me, would mean having to return or liquidate the accessories I didn't need, and would be a setback equal to or greater than waiting for backordered Scarlet accessories.

So... 41 days...

I'm going to wait. Partly because I'm curious about the specs and how they might have changed from previously described, which will push me one way or another wrt to Scarlets or Epic.

Mainly though, like some/most here, I've studied threads to the point where it's maybe un-healthy, taking everything that's been said, trying to figure out what my next move could be. To read such confident and exuberant posts about the Scarlet, particularly in light of the change in philosophy, means something (to me at least).

I think Red are going to blow us away (again) and I think on Nov 3, we all get to come to the party.

My plan is to wait and see what the package(s) include. I suspect that red isn't going to ship the scarlet without a crucial component (we may only get one batt and memory unit in the package to start, but we can shoot with that).

If I find I need more batteries or memory I'm sure I can purchase it new or used.

I decided to wait, as hard as it is. The reasons have already been mentioned here, the budget, the lack of knowledge whats inside a possible package. I also think we can trust RED, they'll make sure that everyone gets a working kit and doesn't end up with a "usesless" body waiting for accessories. Buying away all the batteries and REDMAGs could also be a bit unfair to the current EPIC-owners... They probably need the stuff right now while we have to wait a bit longer. ;)

Don't get nervous, RED will handle it.

Like your thinking Jeff. Certainly have witnessed Epic M owners awaiting accessories that lag their camera receipt. Its why I bought my BOMB last Nov. (and received in Aug!)...
I think RED lads are clever enough to know the demand for SCARLET will exceed Epic by a huge margin, and will stock up on the necessities accordingly. Not much to be gained by releasing a camera then forcing everyone to sit on their hands awaiting batteries and SSDs (for example) -neither of which I expect to be part of the "package" BTW.

Depends on how close you want to keep your cards to your chest - if you don't mind indulging us in what kind of kit you're trying to put together. For me, I have to put together an entire camera kit. Camera, tripod, media, computer, etc, etc,... . I've done quite a bit of studying up on my options, and have a lot of that list nailed down. I was lucky and managed to come in under my budget, so that does give me a comfortable cushion in case the price for Scarlet is higher - even much higher - than anticipated.

Pretty soon, I will start ordering some components from RED. Things like: 1.8" RED Station, the REDvolt 4-pack, SSD's. (Won't go overboard on the batts, since there was talk of a quad charger/battery package coming) But basically, things that are essential, things that you'd want to have extra of, and/or things that might have a run on them once Scarlet goes up for sale. What you mentioned, having components trickling in, is something I'm concerned about. A few of those I mentioned, I can't see being realistically included in a package, so I'm getting them early.

Although, with the "RED stuff for sale" forum, if you did have duplicate components, as long as they're brand new and unopened, you could probably sell them for pretty darn close to 100% what you paid.

And hey, I'm a little nervous too rolling the dice on what I might need, so I'm with you on that.

I agree with Graeme. Wait. Even though it sucks when you have only some of your stuff. No one knows what the package will have. So waiting might be best.

Well i'm planning to put together something like..

Scarlet 8x Fixed body
1.8" SSD slot
5" touch screen
DSMC Side Handle
Redmote (if it doesn't come with the package, I don't really feel like its something i'd need. I've read complaints on them)
RedVolt 4 Pack
4 Pack SSD 64 GB (Might try and work out a split with someone on those)
Travel Charger
1.8" Card reader
I'd also like to get some kind of Wide and Teleconverter

Tack on a couple of hard drives to store it all haha. I'm thinking about picking up batteries and a travel charger here more than anything. Then I feel odd not getting a SideHandle, but that is something I'd expect to see in a package. I'm really hoping they still plan on having the fixed lens.

Similar to my thoughts, but without the side handle and redvolts, I'll be using GMP batteries to get long run times.

And I might take you up on the offer of splitting up the 64package deal. :)

Utah isn't to far from CO! I was thinking about using the Bricks, but it is quite an investment of add-ons to get those going.

That is true! I'll be spending a week or 2 in Moab testing the camera when I get it if you want to come out.

RE: Bricks, when you think about it 4 redvolts, maybe around 45mins each? so 3 hrs shooting, for around $1000 with travel charger.

Or 3 GMP batteries with charger for $1300 and that'll last you 9-10 hrs. Just $300 more and a but more weight.

I might do something like that in the future, but I fly places and I can get around with RedVolts easier.

What will you be shooting? I love Moab.

True, redvolts will be easier to get around.

I shoot alot of off-road races, and outdoors, so I'll be running around with scarlet seeing what it can handle in the extremes.

I love Moab as well, such a diverse place. You setup your camera anywhere, and can frame a shot.

I feel the same about the Rockies :)

Jeffrey if you think the Rockies are impressive you should come and check out Sugarloaf Mountain down here in Florida, its an amazing 312ft high! Yup, one of the tallest spots in Florida. Impressed? Yeah me nether... :undecided:

I definitely want to go to Colorado again once I get my Scarlet. I have yet to go anywhere in Colorado that isn't just amazing to look at.

And to stay on topic, Im also going to wait and see what the package includes before I buy anything extra.

Is the only way to use red bricks with scarlet the belt clip with cable or is it any other way to mount it directly to the camera?

Yeah. Probably a wise choice. I just wanted to see what most would generally do. And that is why I call it home :). Colorado that is.
