  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hi everyone!

Though perhaps not the most vocal reduser, I find myself visiting on a near daily basis. One thing that has always caught my eye is how many talented colorists lurk around here. I've plenty of times hoped to share some material myself in hopes of people giving a crack at it. Well I finally got the opportunity to direct a fun piece for a friends company shot with an Epic and I would be more than grateful to see peoples takes on grades! I have a few r3d's in dropbox: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11493136/r3d stills.zip feel free to play around!

The theme of the bit is kind of a mix of office space and matrix. An uninspired, unchallenged worker tries to dodge his boss and escape the office to find a better job and a better life.

Hope the "grading game" hasn't become old yet. I would be ever so grateful for everyone's input. Thanks everyone!

a dip into green.

a dip into green.

Nothing fancy, just a slight pass on green. redlog, curves, green sprinkles, some slight exposure increase. RedcineX.

Hi Rami Mustakim, could you please tell us what steps and what software you used to achieve those looks? Great work :-)

I was tied down on a shoot and couldn't reply earlier... but damn! So much talented work in this thread. It would be great if ppl could shoot a couple of lines on the process they used so the rest of us could learn. Have to admit, did not fully realize the full potential of the equipment we use untill now. I mean, sure there is Prometheus, Gatsby etc... but they are REAL movies right? The epics they use must be special :P

AMAZING WORK, FLORIN!

Thanks man.

Using RDCX for some weeks (testing purposes on R3D files), but now that I just received my Epic two days ago, I'll go even deeper.

I like grading my footage to have a “mysterious” look (thriller kind of), but also natural to the eye, which is very important to me.

Of course, a different look, like Rami’s, damn...so great.

Keep in touch,
Florin

Have to echo Dave. You could have fooled me on being a pro colourist. Ace job. Not to belittle the other work on the thread - they are indeed too great work - just cool to see the blockbuster look on our material and so well executed. Bravo. Thanks on sharing the tutorial as well!

What is the original mood of the story?
As everyone is taking a stab at grading, I am seeing many different moods being conveyed.
Florin Danilov has good color, and the mood is "clinical."
Rami Mustakim conveys a "cold" mood with bluish tint.
Brett Harrison hints at an "upbeat" workplace with good color and a bright exposure.
Andre W. gives us a "flash back" look with the older magenta, faded photo look.
Antonio Fagundes shows us a "biological lab" look with the very yellow tint.
