I must be doing something wrong... ;)
This is in Redcine-X Pro 13 (thank you for fixing the still store so it doesn't crash!)
I scrub to a point in a clip that I like, create and apply a look, and add it to the still store position 1.
Now I want to make an adjustment and save it in still store position 2 so I can quickly toggle the two.
I change a parameter in the look section (FLUT or Kelvin, etc.)
The viewer will jump back to the first frame of the clip, making it necessary to scrub through to the initial frame I chose.
I can now store it in position 2 and compare back and forth.
That's all great except for the "finding the same frame after the viewer puts the scrubber on the first frame" part.
Is there a way to code the program so this doesn't happen? Or am I indeed doing something wrong?
Cheers,
Harry

Hmm. The clip should stay where it is. Are you doing the following?

1. move playhead to somewhere in clip.
2. adjust parameters
3. Edit > Copy Look > Memory 1
4. Adjust prameters
5. Edit > Copy Look > Memory 2
6. Drag Look Memory 1 onto Clip (clip should stay on same frame)
7. Drag Look Memory 2 onto Clip (clip should stay on sae frame)

Otherwise you may have a bug. Are you creating stills? If so, thats a different thing altogether.

I'm following that procedure, but instead of "Edit>Copy Look> Memory 1", I'm simply pressing and holding still store button #1 to add it there. I think that's the same thing, just using a shortcut.
When I get to #4 on your list, the playhead goes to the head of the clip.
Cheers,
Harry

Bob,
Are you referring to the "LOOK MEMORIES" positions 1 & 2 or the still store positions 1 & 2??

Today just the laptop CPU, watching with the Viewer.
Should I experiment and try to replicate with my Rocket? I can do that later today. On set and the Rocket is back at the office...

Harry

Storing stills will accomplish a similar thing but if you want to apply that look to different clips, you have to use the Look Manager or Look Memory anyway. So... I believe what I suggested is still a better option.
Your method will indeed force you to scrub from the beginning of the clip every time after checking your still image.

OK, at least it's not me then ;)
Would you like the log file or report from my RCX?
Cheers,
Harry

RCX pro has been doing this for the past several releases. Hope there is a fix soon. A functional still store is one of the most important parts of a grading app.
I agree, but: I think you're better off using an actual grading application, like DaVinci Resolve, Lustre, Baselight, Scratch, Nucoda, Pablo, even Apple Color. I think RedCineX Pro is great as a dailies application and debayering engine, but I don't think it's optimized for anything more than a reasonable "best light" color correction. I think expecting more is unrealistic. Know going in that the footage will only look better from here, assuming your workflow eventually ends with final color correction. All these dedicated color-correction systems come with integrated still-stores designed for meticulous, uncompromised color matching.

Strictly my opinion.

Yes, but that's precisely what we all use Redcine-X Pro for; "best-light" dailies. And on location, a DP or DIT has to work fast. And a still store is a terrific way to quickly toggle between corrections. I suppose you could make a new look preset each time you make a minor change and toggle it that way.
No one is arguing that "it will only look better from here". We all get that. We are discussing a bug that impedes functionality, and one I believe the Red Team will squish soon.
Cheers,
Harry

Another option is to use the actual Stills feature within RCX accessible in the bottom tab group of the plugin. Which is similar to the still store without the limit of 3.

Hey Matthew,
How do you get stills into that tab? Snapshot? I currently have snapshot preference set up to send a file to the Desktop.
If I want to reset that, and browse to the correct folder to show up in the tab, what folder should I point the prefs to?
It's pretty unclear in the manual...
Cheers,
Harry

Ah. The snapshot icon with the flag in the middle. I wondered what that was... ;)
I actually like that method very much. Better than the still store on the top of the frame.
Many thanks!
Cheers,
Harry

I wouldn't use RCX for a finals grade in its current form. But if you are doing a best light it's nice to be able to match the wide and closeup as best as possible. And the best way to do this is to quickly toggle a still store and do a 10 second adjustment until they are close.

Eric, did you try the Stills tab method that Matthew's suggesting? It's pretty slick. You could store the wide shot, closeups, the next scene, as many things as you like.
I don't have the Rocket at home but will test to make sure that the still is output from this tab when I can and report back to the group.
Cheers,
Harry

Harry, I've used the stills function. I am not finding a way to store stills from other clips and have them accessible when I am viewing any other clip. For example, I'd like to store a still from a wide shot, then load a close up into the viewer and toggle the still of the wide shot on and off. When I load the close up into the viewer the only stills I have access to are ones from the close up. Are you finding something different?

Eric, you are correct. I had not tried that prior to my post, but just did. The stills you save are "saved" with a particular clip. Oh well.
Matthew, is it possible to have the Stills tab be independent of the source clip? Ideally if you create an RCX project and store stills in there from ANY clip, they would stay in there forever so you could toggle between shots and check the consistency of your grade.
Even better would be a toggle to go between the still of your choice and the "live" clip in the viewer that you are grading. That would be much more powerful than the still store buttons at the top of the viewer in my opinion. You are not limited to three stills, AND you have a thumbnail in the tab to refer to.
